Best tire 4 stock max
I live in NY where the streets are a nightmare, what tire would give me thle smoothest, comfortable. Traction is important.
I was going in the direction of Bridgestone Turanza
Size 225/50/17

Check www.tirerack.com for a more detailed comparison of tires.
For the 225/50/17 you have plenty of choices (Kumho, Falken, Toyo, Avon..etc). It's all a matter of preference and how much you want to spend.

a 50 size tire and bad streets arent a good combination.
i got the turanza LSV over the winter and I love them. Potholes arent so bad out on LI.. but this is a good tire.
very good in rain.. predictable in snow (much better than the stock junk), and I have taken some corners with them, and then are solid.
not really cheap though. $149 at costco--- 40,000 mile tire.

I've got Kuhmo ASX as well. Very good wet traction and one of the best snow for an all season, and it's high performance as well.
The only better tire that does it all is the Continental contiextreme contact. However, they are hard to get ahold of sometimes and more expensive by about $20 a tire (depending on size of course).
Therefore I recommend the Kuhmo.
