I've got a 2002 Maxima and I think they're 17x7's but I dont know for sure what the wheel width was that year. Do I want 225 or 235 width tires?
Your wheels are 17x7
The best tire size would be 225/50-17
Some people run 235/45-17 but it's officially out of spec.

Yes, they are 17x7 and I run 235/45/17's. Have for years and three sets of tires with no problems, and they look much better than the 225/50/17's.

No issues with it rolling over easier on the sidewalls due to it being on a narrow rim?Originally Posted by upstatemax

None what so ever, and I throw the car pretty hard into turns.

So I take it your turn in response is still good? Originally Posted by upstatemax

Sorry for so many questions but typically when you increase tire width on a rather narrow rim you effectively increase the sidewall height just slightly which plays into cornering/turn in etc.

Thats why I decressed the aspect ratio to 45, the 235/45/17's have a slightly shorter sidewall than 225/50/17's.
My turn in is great, no rollover and they look better!

I'm leaning towards the bridgestone 009's at this point...great tire great price seems like the way to go and in a few months they'll be on sale again

newbish question.
I assume your 235/45's are not on a stock max?
with no suspension/spring/strut mods in place, should I even think about a 235/45 or just stick w/ the 225/50?
I could actually buy 225/45's for 75$ cheaper but don't know if being 'out of spec' really makes a difference

My tires are so bald they asked me for a hairpiece today...
kidding, but seriously I need some new ones and wondered if on a stock 5g, I could purchase a 225/45-17 or even a 235/45-17 without screwin' something up

235/45/17's are closer to stock size than 225/45/17's...
225/50/17 is the stock size, but even the dealer told me to go with a 235/45/17 since there are MANY more tires in that size.

alright, so I just got off the phone w/ ricky, my redneck tire dealer and he quoted a set of Nexen 235/45-17 for $344
seems like a darn good price, but again I'm wondering if diverting from the
spec sizes is dangerous....
I don't want to have to cut a u-turn and then have my tires rub my fender well, course it's not like I'm throwing mickey thompson's on there either
I guess my question is, what would be my biggest problem w/ throwing a 235/45-17 on my stocker?
anything?

Your speedometer will be off by ~2%.

made in Korea
pretty nasty looking tread design on the N3000
tireguy I talked to said they were 'mid-range' and 'quiet'
course they say that about every one probably.

I'm not tire expert by any means, but I wouldn't think those would fit on 17x7 rims.. Anyway, I'd go with the 225/50s. They don't look bad at all on my uncle's Sonata.Originally Posted by glenmoormax
