Got General Exclaim UHP 235/45/17 to replace my Potenza RE92s
Hey Everyone....
Since ppl here are as obsessed about tires as I am...
I just got the General Exclaim UHPs that everyone has been talking about on the tirerack. I live near Toronto, ON Canada - purchased them for $520 CDN fully installed.
So far for the 50 kms I've driven in the city, the tires have been okay as far as I can tell. Compared to the OEM Bridgestone Potenza RE92s that I had I can definitely feel a difference in the sidewall stiffness. The Generals don't seem to be as nimble as my worn Potenzas - you can really feel this at speed above 80km/h. Maybe they have to be broken in more? I haven't tried them in the rain yet. The tire has been quiet and the ride is quite smooth considering I have an SE. It could also be that I had really worn tires before.
They look great however, with an agressive thread pattern. Made in Germany.
A word to the wise however...when getting them installed make sure you remove the caps that cover the wheel lugs - the shop seemed to have a bit of a problem with them and ended up gouging my rim. Also check all those little plastic caps on the valves - I've already lost one.
Will update as I get more driving on the tires. It's supposed to rain tomorrow! YAY!
Here are some pics - I live in a new subdivision so excuse the horror of the dirt

With the new 235/45/17 size - any tips on tire pressure? - I mistakenly put my tires to the OEM 32 Front/32 Rear as indicated on the sticker in the console.

You can't do a fair comparison bewteen sidewall stiffness when you go to a different tire size. A 235/45/17 is best suited to a 7.5" or 8" wheel. It will naturally be a little more spongy on a 7" wheel than the stock 225/50 size tire.
