rims won't hold air...

I have the stock 17 inch rims for an 02 se, but the guy before me chromed them or they are factory, I'm not sure. I had a slow leak so I took the tire to get fixed and they gave me back the rim separate from the tire and said they couldn't get it to hold any air because it was too pitted. Can this be fixed? Any ideas would be helpful, thanks

One of my front Z32s has a ridiculously annoying slow leak as well, I was kind of hoping it was the valve stem or something since it hasn't been replaced in awhile, and the tires have been doing that since new (and the last ones too) so the seating shouldn't be an issue.
