Uneven wear if different tire sizes used?
Just curious...if there were a set of 225/55/17s on one axle and 225/45/17s on another axle, would this pose any forseeable problem?

uneven handling and traction. different contact patches, sidewall rigidity, slightly inaccurate speedo depending on which axle you have the smaller ones on. also, when you rotate them you will have to get used to how the car behaves afterwards.

as far as wear, i'm not sure.

are they the same brand/model/treadwear/speed rating?

Exact same. Chirst, I did not think a simple xxx/+10/xx differential would fugg everything up so much.
