It all started a year ago, I bought Kumho Ecsta ASXs to replace my Nitto 450s. For the money, the ASX was all I could afford at the time. 20,000 miles later, the sidewall ripped
. I've always kept the pressure at 33psi at all times, checked weekly. I was glad it happened when I was pulling out of the parking lot at work. Had to call my father to bring me my spare set of wheels with the Nitto tire still mounted to it, limped home. Now I have 3 ASXs and 1 450 ... which looks retarded. I hope none of these 3 decide to rip itself.
Frickin cheap tires...you get what you pay for.
Anyone else have this problem?

Mine have been good. Quiet, but good. Got ~ 20k.
thing is I odered some other tires, but SOB they screwed my order so they gave me the ASX's for much cheaper than they already were.

The ASX does have soft sidewalls. Although I doubt I ripped it through hard a turn, since I never made any "spirited" driving sessions that involved hard turns. I just wasn't expecting that tires like the ASX with excellent reviews would have this problem.Originally Posted by ThurzNite

Tire was mounted on FR.
never had any problem with mine just might be some of the best tires i've owned, ESPECIALLY in adverse weather which we've had a lot of here in the dc metro area. Maybe you just got a bad set or something. But I had mine for a solid 30,000+miles, to me they are good tires for the money.
FR... so when you rotate it goes RR... that's the most common tire to curb, but i'm sure u woulda known if u curbed, right?

Yeah it would have went to RR. These tires have never been curbed since i never park on the street/curbside. Like alicious has said, I probably received a bad set of tires on a stroke of luck.Originally Posted by ThurzNite

Hmm. That sucks. I helped a friend get another set of tires free after his sidewall went. Contacted the manufacture directly. They in turn asked for the lot number of the tire, printed on the inside. Next day, FedEx came by, picked up the old tires and gave him new ones, no questions asked. All he had to pay for was unmounting the old ones, and mounting the new ones.Originally Posted by NisMoN00B

Don't worry you'll love them and mostlikely wont have any problems with them either.Originally Posted by Zack342

I've gone through almost a full set on my car, and am very happy with them. I'll be ordering another set for the Max and they will be going on my 240SX's street wheels as soon as the wheels get here.
Handling is damn good for an all-season tire at $100 each. I've had them on the road course after I flat spotted my slicks, and they were only a couple seconds a lap slower on a 3 mile course. pretty impressive, IMO.
I haven't paid much attention to treadlife on them, but I'm going to guess I'll get 25k out of the set, which is double what I've gotten out of any other tire on my car.

I really hope this is just an individual case here... I just bought 4 of these for the new rims I'm putting on my Max. This is the first time I've read something negative about these tires... infact, I've only read anything but great reviews. Every site that sells these tires has them rated at or near the top w/all other tires in it's class. Considering the price, I'd say that's pretty amazing.

It's most likely just one of those "out of the blue" cases. I'm getting a new set in the next few weeks, and I have 3 30-40% tread "reserve" tires. Good excuse for upgrading to 18s. Originally Posted by Realtight

haha, my excuse for buying 18's was that I'd have to rotate the tires I have in the front to the rear and buy some new ones for the front... all of a sudden BAM four 18" rims show up at my house instead.

moral of the story: Free ground shipping + $40 Mail-in Rebate = Sweet Deal!
I just installed the SPTs (in my sig) and so far I'm happy with them. They are quiet and ride pretty well. Another inexpensive tire from Kumho you might want to consider. SPTs may not be for you cold weather folks though.

I have a well worn set of these on my 2002 SE. I live in real snow country - in the lake effect area just north of Syracuse NY. Any experience w/ these in snow? I spent the last two winters driving my Ford Exploder 4x4 most of the winter, the one experience w/ the Kumho's was frightening - although the tires were worn. No complaints here on dry or wet roads.
