Anyone running 225/40/18 or 235/40/18 step in please

tire rack suggests 235/40/18 at 25.4 diameter on my 18x7 rims. 225/40/18 measures at 25.1 diameter so it is very close just slightly lower and are about 2-3 lbs lighter and there are alot more companies that make this size so i have more options. i am lowered om h&r's, but do not think it will be a problem. I'm considering either kumho or sumito at 225/40/18's any thoughts?

so again has anyone had both or either 225/40/18's or 235/40/18's and what are your thoughts and feelings on these.

THANKS TO ALL THAT CAN HELP IN ADVANCE . ALL INFO IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!

BACKGROUND
have a set of 18 X 7 rims. i currently have 245/45/18's contiextremes on them and the diameter is 26.7 which makes the car sit almost a ful inch and a half higher! oh no!

i was very ignorant to sizing or diameter or weight at the time of purchase, before i found the org or tire rack, and the speed shop i bought them from took advantage of that fact. he told me they would fill the wheel well out better lol .

Since most 18" are 8-9 width and mine are only 7 width, conti extremes were one of the very few you could put on a 7 width and the 245's were the best deal for my application or so i thought. finaly 30k later they are almost ready to be replaced. man do these 420 conti's last!!!

anyway, the car sits too high and when i put my stock 16's on, the ride hight and stance is so so much better looking!! Also maybe some experts can chime in here, but am i correct in stateing the larger diameter also makes my car much much slower and it shifts differently. i know could be the extra weight as well.

235/40/18 is the appropriate diameter, though those seem like pretty narrow rims for a 235 with a short side profile.....

Yeah, if you go too wide you'll start to get some crazy tire distortion under cornering. Personally I'd stick with 225/40s, but then again this is coming from the guy who's alread running a tire diameter that's 2% lower than stock (ooh ahh).

thks for the replys guys and irish thanks for the mil time lol. you've helped me with just about every mod i've done.

such a tough issue to decide. my 245/45/18's give a more bouncy ride than stock and make it harder to stop than stock. is that because of a improper, almost 1 1/2 inch larger diameter wheel, the brand tire, or because they weigh more than stock or combo of all?

The conti's stats said my 245's would fit 7.5-8? the tire itself just barely, slightly hangs over rim. you really can't tell unless you really examine. And ive cornered very hard and no tire slide off rim problems.

with that said, the 235's, since they are slightly more narrow should be an even better fit as far as width. but the less side wall; i'm not sure.

which brings me to next concern, how much harsher will my car ride with the lower profile tires? 225 are about 3 lbs lighter than the 235's and i'm guessing would give better gas milage since there is less friction on the road but how much different wil the car ride with a .3 lower stance= .3 less side wall?

with my 16' 215's the car rides so much better and the stance is so much lower as well. i def want at least the 235's to replace my 245's but if possible would like to go with the 225's.

anyone have the 225/40's? if so are there any downfalls? i just don't want to make a mistake again. ive been waitng a long time to replace these tires. thanks again for any help.

This reply might be a little late but here goes.

I had 225/40's before on a set of 18x7 rims. The savings in gas isn't readily obvious. The type of rubber has a lot to do with how much drag the tire makes. Some 235's has less friction on the road than 225's (and vice versa).

In that one year i had this set-up. I had to replace all four tires on different ocassions. The tire i got wasn't rated to carry the weight of the Maxima so it was very prone to damage. It did feel "light" on its feet, if anything.

That said, if you really want 225's, a 225/45 is a much better choice for a 2002. Of if you want a lower profile & wider stance, a 235/40. Although, a 245/40 has the least speedo error. Only problem is, most 225/45's require a 7.5" rim while 235 or 245/40 requires at least an 8" rim.

Hope this helps.

on your 2000, the 235/40 18 would be the most accurate speedometer reading, but on a 7 wheel that is almost too wide. i have 235's on a 7.5 and i feel that the tires are too wide for even that wheel. you might just want to go with the stock 225 width with that wheel

I have 225/40/18 on a Konig 18*7.5 rim. Too Friggen Narrow. Get the wider tire or the "rim protector" won't do a damn thing.
Next tires are going to be 245, but with the way I have been destroying tires lately (potholes) I will never buy 4 new tires because I keep on replacing 1.
