is this reading with or without hubcaps? lol you could just weigh yours....but they weigh in at 32lbs with tires...205/55/15s.

oh and motegi mr7s are pretty hideous. why not just get 16 inch se alloys? would look good on your car.

hey man, you want some 16's i got some.

first off. 32lbs sounds about right. i know the 97-99se 5 spokes with 215/55/16 weigh about 38lbs. The motegi mr7 is a heavy wheel, especialyl for the design. put it this way, the stock 97-99 se is 19.6lbs per rim and the tire is about 25lbs(according to bfg site). this is about correct accorind to my scale too knockin 44lbs.

my oz superleggera 17x7 and michelin pilot sport a/s in 225/45/17 weigh in at 28.2lbs wheel AND tire. the weight difference is crazy about 16lbs. figure each 1lb of rotating mass you can eliminate is roughly equal to 10lbs of dead weight in the car. 65.5lbs im loosing = 656lbs. now this is all just rough figures, the 1lb = 10lbs is just a very rough thing. but all i know is anytime you can reduce rotating mass you can accelerate faster.

Now if your interested in my stock 97-99 SE 5 spokes(4), only 1 curb rash mark on it and its tiny, no bends, cleaned every 2-3 days with bfg traction t/a in 215/55/16. Id say about 60% tread. PM me. Im in canada too!

Depends on the tires that are on it.

My 15" honeycombs weighed in @ 39.5lbs w/ Yoko AVS.

225/45-17 PS A/S alone weigh 23lbs. You're mistaken. The Superleggera 17x7 weighs a little over 15lbs, so you're looking at 38lbs wheel/tire combo, which is still a respectable decrease.

Also, I'm not sure how SE 5 spokes with tires weigh both 38lbs and 44lbs (actual figure much closer to 44lbs).

Also, the ricer math of unsprung rotating mass to sprung mass is more like 1lb = 6lbs, not 1lb = 10lbs.

ok this is becoming confusing but i think i get it. Basically if i want to save weight i need to pay more money for better, lighter wheels.

96blkonblkse: thanks for the offer, but i dont want to pay shipping for things like wheels which are heavy. There are plenty of maxes here in toronto and i can wait to see if someone is selling something here locally which will most likely be cheaper for me.

I dont race or anything but my main concern is fuel economy, and i know heavier wheels have a great affect on this.

Would you guys suggest just finding some SE wheels and be done with it (i mean its not like im keeping the car another 10 years, it is old non the less) or save up and get something light weight ?

money is tight right now

haha sorrry..ive only been out of school for 2 months and my math has already deteriorated hha.

wellits a good 6lb difference per corner. Definately a big difference just by picking up each one.

if i were you id get some 97-99se 5 spokes. look way better then hubcaps. the 5th gen 17's are nice but also weigh a significant amount more then the se 5 spokes.

Its really up to you and whats available. good luck tho!

Well i just measured the weight of my spare tire which is full size 15" steelie with a goodyear eagle ga tire on it, came in at around 40-41 lbs., i also happened to have another eagle ga tire but not installed on a rim and that came in around 21 lbs or so.

so steelies are about the same weight as some 17" rims

Ok i found some 98 Se 16" rims in excellent condition for 300 canadian (maybe a bit lower if i bargain). the tires have about 40% left (215/55 R16 goodyear RS-a)

definitely cannot ride on those in the winter so they must be replaced but here is my situation i hope you guys can help me with:

Right now both my front and rear tires (205/65 R15) are in their last season, but can still go this winter, i also have a pair of Brand NEW Goodyear Eagle GA's (205/65 R15) but i have read reviews on them and they dont perform well in rain and especially snow.

So what should i do:

1) ride the new 5 spokes until fall and break the bank and get all 4 new tires?
or
2) ride the 5 spoke's untill fall, switch back to 15" steelies for the winter and throw on the horrible reviewed pair of eagle ga's ? and then get new tires at the end of next summer for the 16" s1 year from now )?

thanx guys
