02 max & 350z stock tires rubbing issues?
02 max & 350z stock tires rubbing issues?
I am looking at a set of new 5-spoke 350z 18" wheels that comes with stock 245/45/18 and 225/45/18 tires. How much rubbing issue would I have with a 02 maxima on stock springs?
I've had 350Z track Pack 18X8" wheels and tires on my 02' with the the OEM Potenzas since 04'. My Car has an Eibach Prokit all way around and the only rubbing I had was initially the passenger rear tire when going over a bump on the highway whould rub the top edge were the rear bumper cover ties into the wheel well. I trimmed about .650" off the lip in the well and no more rubbing. Even lock to lock in the steering no rubbing. Today I am having 235/45/18 mounted on those rims for the front. Also probably going to drop the car anouther .4" soon. I'll let you know if any issues.
No, you're not excused and rubbing issues are directly related to suspension set-ups, so that throws definitive out the window.
And it has been asked & answered before around here ...

27k plus posts. Must be an authority. Sounds like a lot to do in NM as I'm sure this isn't your only board.
I owned the the exact set up in his question and confirmed no cleareance issues and as you pointed out "rubbing issues are directly related to suspension set-ups" that's why I confirmed no rubbing with a prokit. That's ok you already got it covered,

I purchased a set of stock 04 maxima 18" rims with 245/45-18 tires on them and the front ones are rubbing the plastic tire well cover. I'm looking at replacing them with 235/40-18 since they offer the least error margin percentage for speedometer reading (0.4% too slow). However I prefer the look of the 245/40-18 at a higher percentage (1.6% too slow)

Thanks NmexMAX. I actually have a 5th gen (2000). I personally like the way the current 245/45-18 tires look on those rims (7.5" wide). I need to buy new tires soon and I am trying to get the correct size for my car, given the 18' x 7.5" rims. But I am kind of concerned about the way a narrower tire, such as the 235/40-18, would look on them, since I don't really like the stretched look when tires are mounted on wider rims. That's why I am more inclined to get the 245/40-18 instead.

This is an 8" wide wrapped in a 235.

So, yours will look even less 'stretched', if you can consider that stretched.

Watch out for some rubbing. If the stock tires for that car are 215/55-16, like my car, then you've gone 0.2 inches higher than what I did (from 25.3 inches in diameter to 26.9). My tires are 20 mm wider than yours (245/45-18) and that could explain the rubbing I have when turning, which could not be your case. But yours will be filling the tire well more than mine.
