I've never ran Continental's before. I know these ContiExtremeContact DWS are brand new in their lineup. The date code on the tire is 4909 so it was just made a few weeks before Christmas. At least nobody has to worry about getting some off the shelf dry rotted 4 year old "new" tires when buying these and one of the only Z speed rated tires with a 50K warranty plus I got road hazard from Discount. Might as well play it safe

FWIW, I have had the DWS's for 6 months now and love them. I do weekend runs from Philly to NYC all the time and they are quiet, have great grip and are an overall great tire. We have had some serious snow here this winter and they have performed well for an all-season tire.

I apologize for bring up an old thread.

I just got a 2000 se and the previous owner just installed 2 front eagle authority tires. They seem to be quieter than the Potenza's AS320s that I have in the back.

Is anyone else running these tires? They are about $125 a piece at walmart. I'm thinking about getting replacing the rear potenzas for these tires.

Do some real research first.

To me, a "cutesy" tire name is a warning flag in and of itself - that's purely a marketing tactic aimed at appealing to customer emotions. While it may suggest that the tire model has good/great performance and/or reliability, it is absolutely not evidence that the tire actually has it.

I'm not saying to avoid tires with such names completely, but don't be afraid to be a little skeptical and don't let the name itself sway your purchase choice. I'm uneasy with just saying the entire names of some of these tires simply because the sound of the words implies what the words normally mean in text or in speech, and that's the link that you need to break here.

Do be aware that a tire mfr's decision to give a tire model a comforting name means absolutely nothing where it counts (grip, wet weather capability, snow performance if req'd).

Bottom line - choose tires with the best performance for your driving conditions and environment that you can afford. Everything else about the tires you buy is secondary. Everything.

Good luck doing research on the Goodyear Authority since it's only sold at Walmart there isn't much on the web about it. Some will tell you it's the same as a Goodyear Eagle GT but has a different tread pattern. I was happy with the one I ran until I got a full set of Conti's to replace the exploding Yoko YK520's (and the one Goodyear Authority I had because of the road-trip blowout). I'll sell you the one I have in my garage really really cheap

One of the rear potenzas took a crap today so I replaced the two rears with new authority's. I can't comment on performance, but the authority's are way quieter than the AS320s that I had in the back.

gdal: Any updates on your Eagle Authority's??

About 2 years ago, I bought two of them to replace a couple bad tires on my 04 SE. They went pretty much bald in less than a year. I had them replaced under the 40k mile warranty, and at the same time decided to replace the other 2 old tires. So in the end I ended up with 4 new Eagle Authority tires.
Well, less than 1 year and about 11k miles later (now), all 4 of them are at the wear mark. I have to go back to walmart to get them replaced again and also cough some more money for the mileage used and mount and balance.
I would love to go with the better tires, but at about $300 a pop, my wallet cannot handle it.
