duplicolor wheel coating?

Alright, I just refinished my wheels using duplicolor high perf. wheel coating in silver. I am also wanting to paint my brake calipers in dark red or the same silver that i painted my wheels. My question si can i use the duplicolor on my calipers? Also does anyone know where to get dark red caliper paint?
Thanks guys,

You can also use engine paint on your calipers, it's cheaper and more selection on colors. I do and never had issues.

the wheel coating is made for wheels and not calipers. i do not know the temp. that this paint will withstand? that is why i ask if it is a good idea to use it.

Use engine paint on your calipers, not wheel paint. The wheel paint can withstand some heat but not heat that brake calipers can produce.

To the OP: when you painted your wheels did you use clear coat? I want to clear coat mine matte (flat) but the wheel paint can says to not use clear. In the stickies, Tim's thread said he put clear on his. I was trying to get some opinions.

I will probably just start a new thread...

which color?

I just painted mine the gunmetal color. I think it's HWP102 (checked the site).

wow you did a good job. Im going with silver, but i think i will lay a graphite undercoat to give it a darker shade.

I used dark gray primer hoping they would be darker. The paint still came out about the came color as the lid on the can. It kind of depends on the lighting, though.

In the shade (in my garage) they look dark, but in the sunlight they are lighter.

did you do any prep work? This is the High performance wheel paint, correct?

I doubt the inside of my rims will look like yours, they're embedded with some surface rust and black grime.

Basic 300 grit sanding, right?

All you do is wash them, air dry, then use strong degreaser or cleaner, sand clear coat off with 400 grit, wash again, air dry, wipe down with tack cloth, then start your painting. 3 coats base, then as many clear coats as you want. Easy as pie

You can get rid of any kind of light corrosion with sanding.

pretty much the same story with mine as above. They were kind of gross. Some lady used them for snow tires. Here is the one with curb rash (notice upper LH corner):

here is the same area:

As for the grime, I washed them twice -- first with a scotch brite pad and Dawn that was strong. The second time with a cleaner like Simple Green I used a big brush and a tooth brush for the little areas. I got all of the crud off of them.

After that, I sanded off the curb rash with my 5" orbital sander. I think I used 150 grit on the curb rash. Then, I went over it again with 220 grit. I bought some sponges that are equal to 320 grit and hand sanded all four wheels.

A couple coats of primer, let dry a while, then a couple of coats of the duplicolor wheel paint. I am going to clear coat them when the weather gets better.

You put clear on yours, right?

I asked that earlier. The can says not to, but it seems like everyone does anyway.

Dude, take it easy. Tell you what, when my girlfriend gets back to my place tonight I' ll ask her if I can borrow her digital cam and post some pics, alright? They are back on the car already and they pretty close to stock(except new) but under low light or other than direct sunlight they have a darker shade of silver or gray. Another thing is that the duplicolor paint has many more metallic flakes in the paint than stock.

I think those are the same wheels I just painted in the pics above.

Duplicolor only has a couple of colors to choose from in the wheel paint.

silver, gunmetal, black, flat black, bronze

Otherwise, you can use some other kind of paint.
