BBK + Winter tire size

Hey Org, winter is comming up and I need precious advise!

I own a 2000 Maxima which means the stock wheel diameter is : 215 / 55 / 16.

I have upgraded my front brakes to 6th gen rotor/pads/calipers, needless to say I need to have at least 17" (which I currently own - set of 4 17" from a 2006 Maxima).

My question : What size would be the best for the winter usage?

Already search on TireSizeCalculator - here's the output :

I want to stay the narrowest as possible - lower the 1st number is, better the traction will be in icy/snowy condition.

Suggestions? 215/50/17 seems to be best choice for me...

I really don't think the BBK has anything to do with your winter tire choice if you keep the same wheels as you used in the summer.

Seems as if you've found your tire size choice.

thanks for sharing, NmexMAX. But as my title say, it's rather about the size than the brand itself...My summer setup is 235.40.18 .

As I never owned winter 17" I was seeking advices and shares about the best size to choose.

Thanks!!

I still think you made the right choice in size, as I stated prior.

215/55/17

I'm on OEM 17's as well -- and looking at a 215/55/17 Blizzak WS-70 tires.
I DID notice, that the 215/55's were almost $70 CHEAPER than the 225/50's from my local Bridgestone/Firestone Dealer!!!
So I'm TOTALLY inclined to go for the 215's.

I too have the 6th gen BBK, so i HAVE to go with 17's to clear the calps!

Standard convention says skinnier tire is better in the snow -- I'm kinda curious if anyone is running this size winter tire on their OEM 17's, and how they like it?!

Just looking for opinions too -- and anything detrimental to this size on our cars, apart from speedometer error.

....sorry for the postwhore to the op....

I don't think 215/55/17 would be mess up the speedometer reading too
much considering it was the tire my car came with from the factory.

On 17" SE wheels??
I don't think so.

Musta been gle's, right?

No matter -- the speedo diff. doesn't matter to me at all. You can see Foxy's chart above says only 3.9% error, too slow, for the 215/55's -- meh.

I'm more curious about HANDLING / Squirming / Torque Steer attributes, but then again -- it's a SNOW TIRE!

btw Ryno: Nice rims -- me jealous!!
