Firestone Firehawk GT review
Well the kuhmos didn't last long with the lsd and 3.5 swap so it was time for a new set. We have a local used tire collection center (basically a tire junkyard), so I went by to see what i could find. I have been using a 225/50/16 on my stock SE 16's (4th gen) so that is what i set out to find.
After looking for a couple of hours being very picky, I found 2 215 55 16 Firestone Firehawk GT's. They looked almost brand new with just slight cupping. So i grabbed them up for $25 a piece and went on my way.
Mount and balance done, It was time for a test drive. They dont look as good or sporty as the Ecsta's. They do have a massive amount of roar/road noise. But i was shocked when i did my first hard 1-2 shift. A bark. Just a bark. No rolling smoke, no wheel hop. Just grip. So i took it a little further and did a faily decent street launch and got the same results. I could hear the debris on the road suffering from the traction. I even did a hard shift to 2nd in the rain the next day for good measure and the tires might have made a half turn before gripping fully.
Based strictly on performance, I love them.
They are not pretty by any means.
They are loud. Very loud.
They ride as good or better than my Ecsta's.
I recommend these tires for a winter set or a track set if you are afraid of drag radials.
I won't buy them again simply because of the noise but the grip I have for the next little while is amazing.
