Got that one today!
Mannnn!!! I got the same code today P0021 and P0011 (bank 1 and bank 2) for my 2002 SE. So if I go to the dealer, it'll be fixed for free cause of the recalls they had for the cam and crank sensors?
Hey Freaknificent you did get the P0011 as well, right? Guy at the autozone told me it's the same thing as P0021! Is that correct guys?

P011 "A" camshaft position-Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1)
P021 "A" camshaft position-Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 2)
i'm wondering if my code is related to this circuit board solder problem. i just got my obd II csanner today. i'm coming up with a code similar.
P0335 Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction. i cleared it but i know it will come on again, i guess i'll either call nissan again or take it in to the dealer.
i called Nissan before when the light first came on when i purchased the car. i was assured by an Indian Guy with an American name that my car was not included in the recall.
man outsourceing sucks, big time. i guess i should have called during bussiness hours, then i would not have been rerouted to India.

^^^^^ Hmmmmm so some cars can not be included in the recall at all! WTH! So Nissan had a list of cars that they were awared with this problem, then sold them to the public and then recalled them?? Sometime Stealers are BSing!
Any ideas on what should we do???

I've gotten P0021 before twice and it just went away without any work. I don't think my car is included in a recall because I asked for all recalls and didn't get any more to apply to my car.
I don't want to pay to fix it if I'm not actively having a problem...

2002 SE with 116K. I pulled this code again for the 3rd time after resetting the ecu...so I guess it is legit now
I am under no warranty and don't want to spend the cash to get this fixed at the dealer. Is the fix easy and the part reasonable?
If I can fix this and sell this car, I will be happy. It is just too sensitive to every little thing.
Other issues:
transmission slipage, cold start rattle, strut noises over speed bumps, bouncy suspension, various squeaks and rattles in the car, and poor handling for stock version car that retails for $30K.

man i have a few of your issues, the start up rattle, the strut sound over speed bumps, and yes i agree these Maximas are too soft.
i had an 85 back in the days that i couldnt kill, the body was leaving but the engine wouldnt quit. and an 89 Super black SE 5-speed and the only issue i had with that was the MAF, easy fix. new maximas way too sensitive, CEL, suspension noises, whinning gearbox etc.....

no they sold the cars then they forund out that a # of sensors that went into x number of vin numbers could be bad. So they recalled every one of then that they think could have a problem. So your vin has to meet a criteria.

The reason they use American names is because Indian names are hard to pronouce and ever herder to spell.
You probably still would have been sent to India. Outsourcing call centers is big business, sucks for US workers.

Rejected!!!
So I went to the dealership to see if they would change the sensors! So they checked my VIN # and told me that my car doensn't qualifies for it, told me why, some BS that I can't remember what it was!
They also said that it could be a solenoid problem not just a camshaft sensor! But I doubt that it would be any solenoid problem! So they told me to check that $50 need to be paid so I said I might come back later!
So do you guys have any clues on what should I do! How could this sensor be changed? Anyone done it before?

It came up again...
Well my P0021 light came on again. It was gone for about month in a half and appeared again. I don't know what I should do! Maybe it is worth $50+ for the dealer to check it out and tell me what's really wrong and what's really going on!
I don't notice any changes after it appeared.

i have been getting the same code recently too. not really hurting performance but sometimes it feels like it being held back. A good friend/mechanic said that he called nissan and they told him that it could be from not changing the oil and the solenoid is getting stock or not moving. i do have an oil leak problem but im not sure if it is related or not.

rkazz are you going to find out for sure what it is, planning on fixing it?
I'm thinking on going to the dealer and finding out what it is for sure, and what I can do to fix it.
According to some other people with the same code, it could be two Intake sensors which need to be replaced, not just the solenoid, or camshaft problem. I think going to the dealer and finding out for sure would be the best thing, cause you never know what might be causing it.

well my friend has been a mechanic for at least 30+ years so i know he is good at diagnosing stuff. Its hard to track him down to look at my car but i do plan on finding and fixing this problem asap.

Here's a link on the same code, what it was and how that person fixed it.

And yes I agree our Maxima's aren't as reliable as the older gens, but they're still very good cars.

Ok after fueling up my code is gone again, don't know when it's going to come back again?!
I was thinking on taking it to the dealer but it's gone now. Well let's wait and see if it'll show up again!

My 2002 Maxima SE is throwing both codes P0011 and P0021. I just got it from the previous owner (she's had it since she drove it off the lot) and I'm not sure if she had the recall checked.
Is there anywhere I can check online to see if my VIN was in the recall? Also, if it is, and it was never done, will they still do it when it has 116k miles on it?
Thanks for any information related...

I know it is expesive to go to the dealer just to have a test done on your car, but the codes that you get from autozone are universal codes and may not have anything to do with that part. Like i went to autozone for my ses light i got code poo21, they told me it was the camshaft, but when i went to the dealer and they pulled the codes or ran the test, it came out to be an abs module, they reset the code and told me to come back if it happens again, but it never did, but autozone codes are not 100%

I was a quart low on oil which I read somewhere could cause these codes to come up. I went ahead and changed it even though I still had a good 1000 miles left to go before change. I had the code reset also, will see if it comes back.

revisiting this old thread
Has anyone found a clear way to diagnose or repair the P0011 and P0021 SES codes without going to the dealership? I want to replace the camshaft sensor but am also considering doing the intake sensor/s. 121K miles now and trying to keep this baby alive.
Thanks!
Thanks!
