Modify a Nismo intake for 6th gen Max's to work in a 5.5?

Does anyone think this is possible? I have examined the dimensions of both engine bays and looked at how the product sits in 6th engine bays. I then compared the picture to engine bay of my car (03 GLE) and it seems I might be able to make it fit as a CAI with an additional pipe from the throttle body or make it a shorter intake nearer the battery. Obviously it's easier to just by the injen intake and be done with it but I love Nismo's style and would love to have such a unique mod, especially if it worked well. Here is the link to the product in question.

1.) Don't buy an Injen.
2.) I think someone has done it.
3.) 02/3 MAF's are different than 04-08. So, keep that in mind if that Nismo has the MAF bolt pattern on it.
4.) I'd say JWT POP is the best bang for the buck at your level. My best Dyno came using that and it's less than half the price of the Nismo.

So I would need to make sure the MAF sensor is interchangeable? Or that im at least able to swap out the 04-08 MAF for the 02-03 MAF in the piping? Could you provide a link to the intake you recommend?

JWT Pop charger. I have one myself and it's a nasty SOB.

It's not interchangeable, that was my point.

So would I be able to use an MAF sensor from 02-03 in the Nismo intakes piping instead or would the dimensions not match up? And instead of a pop charger or SRI I think I'll be going with the "true" CAI mod where I move the battery and fuse box so that I'm able to place the filter within a cutout section in front of the wheel well. In reference to this option, what intake would fit well for this method?

What about building a 4-5" custom tubing short air intake or CAI setup??

No, because the Nismo is made for 04+ and not for the 02/3, therefore the MAF bolt pattern wont match up because the Nismo isn't made for the 02/3 MAF.

"True" CAI's are snake oil IMO. My IAT's when driving are same as ambient, unless in city driving, and even then they're only 8-10ºF higher.

I still stand by the JWT POP.

As for the 4", yes I have one, but it involves more than just the intake piping to make it work.

Check the All Motor forum for more info. Like I stated earlier, at your level a JWT POP is best.

I see what you're saying....It's doable....But! Going the 75mm Lrg bore TB (NWP), and 4" intake tubing with a tune will be your strongest mod...But the JWT Popcharger is a good setup requiring no tune and good bang for the buck!

Just go with a POP. POP = 100$.

I went from 211whp with nothing, 220whp with GAB, and 233whp with JWT POP, no tuning and headers were the only mods, aside from the intake set-ups I just mentioned.

WB w/readout = 250
440 cc Injectors = 180
4” Intake=200
AFC (least expensive route) = 180
Supporting mods (at least headers) = Varies

Reasons: WB w/ readout. You need this because as we all know too well, the larger the MAF housing, the less flow resistance which means the ECU thinks there’s far less air flowing, which it then compensates by going dangerously lean. This gives you the option of monitoring your AFR live, while driving, etc. Peace of mind, maybe, smart, yes.

440cc or < Injectors= OEM injectors are usually nearing their limit (IDC near or > 80%). You’ll need some anyway so why not get these at minimal, or you can get 550’s. This also helps the timing cirve stay intact when/if going with the AFC method vs something more expensive.

AFC= Helps scale the MAF to think you have an OEM or close to OEM sized MAF, so adjusting AFR accordingly using this is a lot easier vs needing to add tons of fuel (%) just to idle correctly.

Supporting mods: I suggest at least headers. If you want to do some real damage, get a 3” test pipe and 3” catback at the very least.

4” Intake, this is the no brainer, all of the above won’t do much unless you have this. A few options available, but I suggest CGR’s version. Easy and simple no need for mixing and matching different items from different companies. CGHR’s is one stop shop, all you need in addition are couplers a velocity stack (50-60$) and a filter (35$).

I ended up going with the GAB mod. Found a second filter holder and drilled 4 1 inch holes in top. Imagine the following X's are the 8 slots on top of it and the O's are where I drilled; XOXOOXOX. I'd post a picture but I'm unable to find the option on my phone. This really gave it a better sound and feel than when I tried using the hanger method. Cost me 10 bucks for the extra holder, a little gas and my friend drilled it and smoothed out the holes for free. Loving it and thinking about keeping it for good. Probably going to put some red rubber o rings in the holes to clean up the look of them lol.

I don't do jwt pop chargers anymore. They mess up your maf. Dry flow is best imo

Popcharger is awesome.
The oiled filter that comes with the velocity stack can harm a MAF, but just replace that filter with a dry and the JWT Popcharger is one of my favorite mods.

I've been using the JWT POP for 15 years, 321,000 miles, and 2 cars and only gone through 2 MAF's, 1 with each car. Maybe you shouldn't over oil it. As long as you follow the directions, it's fine.
