Knocking Sound - Difficult to Find
I have had this knocking sound for the past year. It doesn't happen consistently and it has become progressively worse. It seems to be coming from the front, driver side strut area. It started only on bumps in certainly ways I went over the bumps. Now, I get some other noises when I am turning and braking at slow or no speed. I can almost feel a shift in the brake pedal from the caliper.
The mechanic shop I go to cannot seem to reproduce the noise. It happens most consistently when I am going over a speed bump on an incline at an angle where one of my wheels hits the bump first and then the other wheel follows.
I recorded the noise and attached the sound file. It is a distinct knock. All suspension components are in good working order, tight, no play, and motor mounts are in good condition.
The only possibility I can think of is the top bearing on the strut. Would this relate to the noise in the sound file?

Mine was making this noise too..only sometimes but when I did hear it I was turning or going over a bump. I thought it might be a strut going bad.
My radiator had a little play in it..I zip tied it down at the tops & i haven't heard the noise since. Not sure if it a coincidence because I thought for sure it is coming from a component in the suspension

Thanks guys. I check the radiator and it is fine. Could be strut mounts....I'll have to see about changing the driver side. I think they are only $25 and wig a spring compressor should only take about a half hour or so to change.
