How long do the brakes last on these cars ?
I bought a new 2013 Maxima. I also got their two year warranty ( oil change / tire rotation, check brakes, fluids, etc.) and go to all the scheduled appointments.
I just recently got a letter from the dealership I bought the car from in forming me "The estimated remaining brake life was: NEAR UNSAFE LEVEL.
I've owned the car a little more than a year and driven about 12,000 miles, NEAR UNSAFE LEVEL, really ?
So how many miles should i get on those new factory brakes ?

Sounds like total BS. I've currently got over 88k on the original pads front and rear on my 09 Max. I have them checked at each oil change and they are still fine. Unless they are using totally different pads/rotors on the 13 Max, I would want to see, for myself, the condition of the pads. Good Luck.

The dealership might have you mixed up with another customer. Call the dealership and tell them you got this letter and are concerned that the brakes need servicing so soon. If in fact your car is the one they are referencing, take your car to a reputable brake shop for a second opinion. If it turns out your brakes are good then confront the service manager about the discrepancy between the two. If he is adamant about his opinion then seek out a different dealership for car maintenance.
I just had the oil changed and wheels rotated by my dealership and he said the brake pads and rotors have minimal ware. I have 40,000 on them now.

The dealerships always send these type letters out in the hopes to get a "FISH" to bite out of fear and get work done. It was not a mistake, the letters have your vin, car year, your name and your address and name on them. I'm sure a lot of people with older cars (2009-2010) have probably already received the infamous letter saying "we need cars like yours and will give you top dollar for it on trade in". At 12k miles you are no where near needing new brake pads unless you've been autocrossing for the last 6 or 7k miles. Pull a tire, check your pad life and forget about the dealer notification. Btw, I'm currently at 73,700 miles on the original pads.

I'm glad this post is here because my 2010 was the same way with the rears wearing first. I replaced rear pads at...baaah....around 75K. I have 115K on the car now and have not replaced the fronts because they don't need it yet.
I have a feeling that EBD has something to do with it.

With the mileage that you guys are getting out of your rotors, are you getting any shimmies or vibrations from that prolonged use? Or are you simply replacing them when they are starting to squeak, make noise, or at the point where they need replacing for your safety?

I can't speak for others, but, in owning/driving many dozens of cars since I began driving in the late 1940s, this 7th gen Maxima (built in Sept 2008) is the FIRST car I have ever owned/driven that has had absolutely NO shimmy, grabbing, noise or vibration of any kind. Even my wife comments on how smooth the brakes are on my Maxima. And my stopping distances always seem surprisingly short. I LOVE these brakes.

The only time I've ever had this kind of problem in the passt was with my 1990 Acura Legend when it was approaching 200k miles and started to eat rotors. (I finally had the car put down at 289k miles as it couldn't keep the drivers compartment dry amongst other issues). I got my $$ out of that car for sure!

With 115k on the fronts and 55k on the rears I have a little vibration under braking.
I'll replace them in the next couple weeks. No vibration at all till over 100k on the fronts and 50k on the rears.

I just went over 74K miles and I'm just beginning to hear a little brake squeal from the front passenger side. I'll pull the wheels and check my pads this weekend. My last 8k miles or so have been in the heat of Cali and Vegas. So even though they squeal every now and then there is no pulsing in the pedal. So I'm confident that my rotors are good and will not need to be changed.

Driving 2500 miles monthly in this car for my new job has proved good. Unlike any car I've ever owned before, my knees and back don't hurt after going on a 5 hour drive.
It's a cool car and has been 100% problem-free. Bad #1 main bearing and leaky head gaskets and all....

I have 35k on mine and I promise u I drive it like I stole it every time I am in it.
Unbelievable that the brakes can take it.
I've had a ton of cars everything from jeeps to mustangs to my rx8 to horrific vdubb and everything in between. That being said no car until this beloved max can handle the asskicking that I give my cars.
Don't get me wrong I maintain them to the T but use them for what their worth.
This car is amazing it takes whatever I give it in stride.
I can't believe the brakes on this car.
You know what lots of guys bust this cars ***** and I just don't get it.
This thing is awesome.

I was tricked into changing my rear rotors/pads at 36k. Rotors, I guess, because they had to upsell me plus it's recommended to change rotors with new pads, because these ******** didn't do resurfacing/turning the rotors.
Front pads still going strong at 53k. My car doesn't have many miles for a 2012. I am the sole owner, so far. I'm probably boring the car parts to their end of life. I do drive adventurously and I'd say I brake normally, not with my left foot always on the brake or anything. Haha. Not sure why the rear pads were bad at 36k. I could feel a shimmy, though it was clear from the rear side. Now that they are changed and I'm at 53k, I'm starting to feel the shimmy again, but this one's rattling the steering wheel, so it's clearly coming from the front brakes.
I probably got a bad batch of pads, combined with age and environmental factors, I guess.
