What's wrong

Something isn't right here. I ran twice last night and got 17.114 @ 81.94 on my first run and 17.053 on my second @ 82.21 I have a 96 GLE AT w/HKS intake and rear section muffler. Isn't this a bit high?

Could it be the Denso Spark Plugs I'm using? I heard OEM NGKs might be the only ones to use.

What was the outside temp?
Is your Knock Sensor bad?
How much extra weight do you have in your car?

Was the track on an incline?????

Outside temp was in the low 100s. (its Las Vegas, NV)I'm not sure if my knock sensor is bad. How do I check? Well I just took out my spare, jack, and axle. I had some papers in my glove box and a cd case in the car.

The problem was the outside temperature. I'll never go to a track in hot weather again.

I am having real good performance lately and I am running the Denso 2 step colder (non-iridium)

I'm not sure which plugs I have, I just wen to AutoZone and said "Let me get 6 Denso platnium spark plugs". I remember a black box with lightning on it. Which kind are these?

Re: Re: Re: Re: What's wrong

Okay, here is it....

R/T 2.058
60 2.731
330 7.463
1/8 11.304
MPH 64.51
1000 14.559
1/4 17.319
MPH 81.35

Keep in mind I have an HKS SMF intake, along with the HKS muffler (the fools cut of the flange and welded it onto a non-mandrel bent pipe of their own an called it a cat back). I also hear this whistling sound from my engine (I think is my intake) @ 2K RPM. Damn I wonder what is wrong. I'm suppose to get high 15s with an Auto if I do a splendid run. I didn't really chirp or peal my tires at all. I notice take off was really slow and at the high end of my 3rd gear my car hesitates. Help!

It's your reaction time that's huting your times.

I thought the clock does not start until you leave. In other words I though reaction time did not affect my times. If so I suppose I can subtract my RT from my actual time, and that is what I could run? Hmm...

Reaction times only affect you in a "head to head" contest. The E.T. is not affected at all by the R/T. His 60' times are very slow. My first guess would be mechanical problems. Pull the codes and see if you have a KS code. If not, check the status of plugs, fuel filter, intake filter. If not, check the status of your exhaust from front to rear. If not, you have a bear on your hands. What kind of milage are you getting under regular conditions?

I agree with Deezo it was the weather. 100 degrees is extremely hot. I know there are some sites than let you plug in your time and weather conditions and it will correct it to a normal-day time. You can see how far off you were. And if you are still 16+, change the knock sensor (seeing you have a '96) and plugs to NGK Plats, and check to see if your fuel filter is clogged.

Ya reaction time has nothing to do with your 1/4 time, But those 60 ft are high man, I am at 2.5 60 ft at 5800 ft and you are at a considerably lower elavation than I am, either somethn is wrong with your car or you really need to learn how to launch (maybe combination of both). Did you torque brake?
anyway run the codes from your ecu and see if anything comes up.

Well actually the day it was 100 I ran 17.053. This slip was from yesterday 6 Sep 02 and it was in the low 70s outside! I'm not sure how to "pull" codes from the ECU but I will not ask. Since I will probably get the usual "do a search" answer. I will be happy once I reach the 16s. I've been really close but my goal for now is 16s. I'm thinking it could be my HKS sponge filter. It says to replace it every 3k miles. Its been about 7K now, and I cleaned it about 3k ago. However I think the cleaning didn't do it any good. I didn't notice any diffrence in peformance. Hopefully once I get my Ypipe, ECU, b-pipe, and UDP I"ll be in the 16s.....then again hopefully...

You should be in the LOW 16s or high 15s stock. There is definitely something wrong with your car if you need that many mods to break into the 16's.

Im a 96 GXE auto and i ran a 16.1 in the 1/4 for my best time. My mods so far are intake and exhaust. I hope to break into the 15's with a ypipe. I'm pretty sure the temperature had something to do with your time because when I ran it was like 60 outside temp. There maybe something mechanicaly wrong with your car like knock sensor or maybe a tune up. That's just my guess.

How much do you weigh? Are you launching it right? Are you flooring it? Maybe try a different driver? Do the 60k Tune-Up. Get the codes to make sure your KS is not retarding the timing wrong. Then after you done all that run again.

I weigh about 180, my GLE weighs what all the other GLEs weigh. I brake torque till about 1.5k and then lauch at full throttle. I know for a fact that I do not waste time in my launch since I'm flooring it and my car does not chirp at all! I have no wheel spin what so ever. My car feels horribly slow for the first 60 feet. I'm talking Sentra slow. I also know it hesitates around 3k in 3rd gear. Perhaps I have an exhaust leek? It sucks getting smoked by damn civics with only the basic bolt ons.

Wow man I would feel horrible. Do the 60k tune up and check your computer for any codes. Check for an exhaust leak but I doubt it would drain that much power.
