hesistation effecting times

hesistation effecting times
ive got a little hesistation from a defective coil in my car now. the hesistation occurs around the 4k-4.5k range in second gear only and when at wot. and i was wondering how much this will effect my times and performance when im racing. also when im racing is it better for me to shift to third right when the hesistation starts, or should i just stick it out and ride it till redline like normal?
