Help on hooking up

I am getting ready to go to the track hopefully in the next month or so. I was wondering what the best way to do it was? I have heard rev engine to 2,00RPM then drop the clutch, is that the desired RPM? I have brand new yokohama AS430 tires, with 2K on them. Sometimes I screw up shifting from 1-2, so is there any other way to get better other than practicing? Do you stay in first gear up to the 60' mark or do you go into second before then? Please help.

So you need help on hooking up huh? Well first you want to take your tounge and............jk lol.

I rev to 1,800rpm and slip the clutch till i feel it grab. I don't drop the clutch, it will just bog down if I do that. You have to feather it and let it go all the way only when you feel the tires will catch otherwise you will just spin trust me. This got me a best of a 2.28 60' which isn't too bad. Anywhere below a 2.35 is considered a "decent" 60' for our cars but of course a 2.1x is possible.

Just practice on the street there's nothing to it. Good luck

Launching a car is like learning to ice skate (or any other activity that takes practice). No one can explain how to do it really you just have to get out there and try it.

Ice skate?? What kind of ferry ice skates.

There are many different ways to launch. Some slip the clutch at 4K, some use a 2K dump, etc, etc...

The best 60' times I have gotten ons street tires was launching almost off idle. I would get the car rolling for a couple feet then lay into the throttle.

Just go give different things a try and see what works for you.

Why do I shift at 6080 going into 3rd, isn't that kinda low? How did you figure that out? And what kind of 60' time do I need? I will figure out what I get when I go. Thanks.

No, if you redline every gear in a 4th gen without MEVI you will be slower. Shift at redline then 6300 then 6000

agreed. I have tried shifting at the following rpms:

1-2 @ 6,500
2-3 @ 6,500
3 ( crossed the line at 6,500, did not shift to 4rth)

I have tried this 3 times and my best time was a 14.9, the other 2 were 15.0x

----------

Then I shifted the way I do now:

1-2 @ 6,500
2-3 @ 6,300
3-4 @ 6,000

Shifting this way, I acheived my best et: 14.762, with numerous other 14.7s and 14.8s. I also trapped an avg of 1mph more than the other shifting technique.

Before I had the MEVI I redlined every gear and my PB was like a 15.72 after MEVI redlining every gear my PB is 15.38. Unfortunately my track is at 4000 elevation and I suck at launching. Once I pulled a 2.35 60' and that run I hit a 15.40. That probably would've been my best run but I accidently spun the tires on my 1st-2nd shift.

I am usually at 2.40 60' which is better than before. I couldn't get better than a 2.45 60' my first time so I've improved a little. Next time I go maybe I can hit 2.3's regularly.

Like everyone has said it just takes practice. You can get lots of pointers but you won't really figure it out until you do it at the track.

you are not a professional racer to cut a good 60' foot tie on stick, hell a stick that is a OEM will not be consistant at all if you can get traction you are in good shape. just granny shift until you feel that you can get agressive. the number one rule of racing is progress and practice

Granny shifting? How is it different from anything else other than when regular driving?

I dump it a 1.5k. My best '60 was 2.264 and 2.30 on my best run (15.0).

1-2: Redline
2-3: 6400
3-4: 6200

That was stock.
