new PB - 14.11 @ 96.7mph

Too bad nobody else from the .org was there to see it though.

Byron was empty yesterday. I got there 2hrs after opening and was car #68. I did 12 passes in just over 2hrs including a short break. Pretty good weather - 49deg, 44%hum, 30.7baro, 2-3mph headwind. Started partly sunny then turned overcast.

This was my first time using slicks. First 3 passes did em 20lbs & dry like normal tires. Netted 2.1-2.2 60fts and 14.4-14.6 ET's. Broke me outta my 14.7-14.8 slump from the past 2 years.

Used 16lbs & the box for the rest. Bit tricky using the rwd designed box as the rear tires get wet too. Made for interesting braking as my back wanted to brake loose. I never really did a long burnouts, maybe just a sec or so. I could smell em but no smoke.

Got a few 2.0 60's but they all had spin and the shift to 2nd came real fast. Never got the RPM's and the clutch just right. I got the feel for what a good launch feels like but never did that one great one and put it all together. Looking back I don't think I got em hot enough. Best trap of the day was 97.98, 4mph more than previous. Ran a few 14.1's and some repeat data. I believe a 1.8 launch is possible and the car could run 13.8-13.9 in this config.

'97 SE, 5sp, NA, power doors, win, roof, stereo. Most bolt-on's, USIM, stock TB, stock flywhl, stock clutch, cat, no header or any internal engine changes. Ok, yes I threw out the seats, have mini battery, ECU, and was running on empty. Scale said 2810lbs. Still, no variable intake

Dude that is smoking fast for your mods. Way to go, finally you got some good results. I love byron when you can catch a cold day when it's not busy. Did you have the "special" intake on?

No, just the shortram w Apexi (no stock resonator). (Made my own adapter after Frankencar couldn't supply). Not much point to installing the FAI (frozen air intake) for just 3hp in Nov.

Nice runs. I knew your car had the ET/MPH. It was just a matter of catching the right conditions and traction. I'd kill for a 2.0 60'.

Hmmm byron in January would be interesting. I wonder what I'll be driving then.

Awesome time Brian. If I may offer some advice for the future. Drop them down to about 14.5lbs and continue dropping them in 1lb increments until you feel like you are no longer getting any additional benefit. I usually end up at 12.5lbs.

What type of slicks are they? I know M&H slicks like to be HOT. The longer you can burn them, the better. And don't worry about burnouts affecting treadlife. You know how often I go to the track (I probably had 125 passes on my slicks, with stupid -3* camber settings, and you still couldn't even tell they were worn, and I do long burnouts.) I usually do a burnout until I can start seeing smoke in the cabin of my car, then I know they are good to go.

Good advice Neal, thanks. They are the 6x26x15 M&H. I dropped em from 20->18->17.5->17->16 and stopped there not knowing how low I could go w/o rim screws & such. I dialed my camber back to -2.2 too to help keep em flat. Now that I'm comfortable with em I'll push em harder next time.

Byron was spraying & burning the track with VHT about every 45min doing what it could to offset the cold surface. Couple of the 9-10sec cars wouldn't run right after that for fear of hooking up too hard.

I noticed the Millenia wheel hub is a bit larger than the Nissan 66.1mm. Is there any need for hubcen rings on these things?

I wouldn't worry about the getting rings. Probably a 100 passes on my millenias w/o any problems. If this were not just staight line racing I might be concerned.

Those are the same slicks I had. Yeah I've gone as low as 11.0 experimenting and didn't have any problems other than the fact that my trap speeds started dropping with anything below 12.0. As far as hubcentric rings, I wouldn't (and haven't) ever worried about it. On the big end if I don't bother to center them as best I can using the taper of the lug holes along with the taper of the lug nuts I get a little vibration but nothing alarming or that I would consider a problem.

I am curious to know how you were launching though. If it helps you in the future, I found a 5500rpm drop was best for me. I would have gone higher if I had a clutch that couldhandle it, but 5500 is all my clutch would take. I started out my first time ever on them using 3000rpm drop, that netted like a 2.3 60 so I upped it to 4000 and that gave me like a 2.11 which sucked too, so next time I tried dropping it from either 6000 or redline, I think it was redline, and that burned the crap out of my clutch, so the next run where I tried 5000 wasn't a valid run really.

I wouldn't worry about hub centric rings. I've noticed no wild vibrations. Hell, my first pass yesterday resulted in some pretty serious wheelhop and I managed to fling both wheel weights off the rim. I continued to make 3 more passes on the unbalanced rims and didn't notice any vibrations

congrats on the time ! when you start getting close to 14.0 in a 4th gen N/A you know you have your boogie shoes on. at what point do some of these maximas become some sort of race spec maxima, lol ! again, great work and great driving !
