Damn, my AE is slow...OKC Thunder Valley Night

..took it out to Thunder Valley tonight after replacing the plugs with new NGK coppers. Ran ten times all at an average of 16.114. I only had one sub 16 run which was a 15.978. This all came with average 60 foots of 2.443. I cant for the life of me figure out why my car was so slow as it progressed down the track because a 2.443 60' aint all that good.

Best Run of the night:
R/T .018
60' 2.400
330 6.763
1/8 10.340
MPH 69.45
1000 13.382
1/4 15.978
MPH 86.85

Yes a 2.43 is pretty bad. Cutting .15 off of that would bring you down about 3 tenths. But even then you'd be slow. You should run 15.3-15.0. Check your knock sensor. You put 91-94 octane in?

Nice car BTW. 5th gens are pimp.

Ya, I ran with 93 octane and am unfortunately weighing in at 3350 pounds.....but still, the last time I was at the track I ran a 15.4 without any problems.....only thing different today was about 100 pounds heavier and copper plugs instead of the stock plats.

If that's 3350 WITH you, it's normal. So no problem here. Pull your codes. It's either the weather or your knock sensor, every maxima owner's best friend.

No, that 3350 was with me OUT of the car -- it was 3540 with me in it.

2000-2001 normally have a 3200-3220 lbs curb weight, so something's wrong there. If your tank was full it could have affected that. 80lbs= about .1.

Nah, the tank was just below 1/4 remaining. Van and Blake went with me and they both weighed in at ~3100 lbs (Blake has an 00 SE man with 16" rims, Van has an 02 GXE auto with 17" SSRs)

How is your VI? 86mph is awefully low for an automatic Maxima running high 15's.

Thunder Valley is a slow, crappy track. But you should still be running faster than that for sure. The terrible 60 foot did not help either. You should be able to pull at least a 2.25 on street tires

Ya, the thing is I seemed to be launching decently Friday night but still had 10 nearly identical 60's around 2.44. I think my car just might have hit a brick wall the last two weeks since the last time I was out there running a 15.424 with a 2.3 60'.

AE's are slow. I know another member that couldn't break 15.7 all day. He had a lot of 15.9's.

Quick 5.5th gen you have there.

I'd like to know why our cars can't hook worth a $hit...

Why would AE be any different? Besides the different stock "exaust", which supposedly give you +7 hp. Is the ECU tuned a bit different. It seems to me too though that it seems a little slower than it should be. I haven't ran any 1/4's but it just should be quicky. It is an auto also. The shift points @ wot are really wimpy as well. Along with the stupid governer that will shift from 3rd to 4th @ 3500 rpm's no matter what you do. I still like the car but why would the AE's be so slow?

Well...first, the AE's kit adds on probly anywhere between 50-100 pounds and then the AE rims weigh as much as some 18's. The exhaust difference is 5 CRANK hp, not WHP, so you wouldn't even be able to notice a difference. After doing some research on other 1/4 mile AE times, I would say I was right about average.

Thank you. I was messing with the tire pressure but the track was closing and I couldn't get the pressure right. The fastest 60' time that I had was when I ran a 14.8xx. I'll figure it out next time, after my timing advance.

Let us know how the timing advance feels, and if it makes a big difference at the track.

I'm thinking of a b-pipe/timing advance. See how close it gets me to 97mph traps...

p.s. sorry for the thread hijack.

I got the timing advance and I am heading to the track tomorrow to see how it works out. I can feel a little difference. Hopefully that translates to the track time.

Several of the OKC Org'ers got together tonight to race at Thunder Valley. Three performance mods were completed since the last time I went to the track and I had hoped to post better times since the last, but unfortunately, my 1/4 miles were actually worse. With the addition of the Budget ypipe (sucks ***), the DR mod (worked pretty well), and the timing advance (17*), I had expected to see improved times, but that was not the case. Tonight's best:

R/T .306
60' 2.483
330 6.854
1/8 10.393
MPH 69.83
1000 13.404
1/4 15.965
MPH 87.85

However, there is a little something that I can add that most likely had a significant impact on my times. Tonight's weather conditions were as follows:

Temp -- 95 (arrival at 730) - 85 (departure at 11)
Dewpt -- 65 (arrival) - 70 (departure)
Humidity -- HIGH
Wind -- 0

Considering last time we were at the track the temp was around 55 with little to no humidity, I am thinking that may have made the difference here. Also, Thunder Valley is a notoriously horrible track, so I am hoping that this was the cause of the poor times. I will say this, after averaging out the mph's in the 1/4 from last month's and this month's, the numbers this month were consistently 1-2mph faster...don't really know why though.

Here are some clips from tonight:

Blake making a run in his 2000 5spd SE

http://24.217.142.150/OKC/Blake_1.MPG

Here are two runs I completed, the first without the DR, and the second with the DR.

http://24.217.142.150/OKC/Lance_withoutDR_052005.MPG
http://24.217.142.150/OKC/Lance_withDR_052005.MPG

Here are the times I recorded for these two runs respectively:

Without DR:

R/T 0.141
60 2.485
330 6.936
1/8 10.550
MPH 68.71
1000 13.619
1/4 16.234
MPH 86.21

With DR:

R/T 0.233
60 2.498
330 6.916
1/8 10.464
MPH 69.64
1000 13.478
1/4 16.027
MPH 88.17

Humidity and heat were definately the two factors that held everybody back. I was trapping 3mph less than usual, even with a .3 better 60', so it all can't be blamed on the car or the driver. Also I will say that whoever talks crap about the quality of Maximas should know that I made 13 passes tonight in near 100 degree weather and drove it home just like it had never been there. OH and also two of the runs were beating a buddy of mine in an LT-1 Formula. I can't brag on the car enough.

Pulling that bad of 60 foot times makes any comparison hard. Your traps are so low I would really take a look to see if something is wrong with your car...look into the VI not working.

Well, first of all, I am running on the stock Potenzas that have about 30% tread left which definitely can't help my 60's. Second, I currently am pulling two O2 sensor codes and the Budget ypipe is still leaking, so those two things combined can't be helping me and I know for a fact I am running rich.

Ya, I shut mine down after 9 passes that were spread out over about 3 hours. Here is a bit more info just so you know what I was running:

Front tires -- 27psi (hot)
Rear tires -- 35 psi (hot)
Manually shifted the A/t on 7 out of 9 runs (numbers indicated it was faster, but bounced the rev limiter one or two times trying to get used to it)

I keep an Excel spreadsheet with all my times and you can check out the run-to-run differences here, they are listed in order from the first run of the night in the serious heat (730p), to the last run at about 1030pm.
