First time on a strip since July 5, and I got one pass....
Last night was the first time I've been on a drag strip since July 5th, because of extreme heat and some serious rain lately. I went to KCIR last night and got my first pass at 6:41 PM - got some decent times, but when I went back and parked at my trailer, the car wouldn't start. I have no fuel pressure, apparently.
I used my Harbor Freight electric winch and Sam's club battery pack (nothing but the best) and managed to pull the car back on the trailer, I wound up helping a couple of other guys with problems, so the rest of the evening wasn't a total waste. Saw a Hudson Jet racer with a 359ci Hudson engine and 4-barrel carb plus headers. It sounded mean. I have pictures- it had a in-line 6 flathead with custom head! The owner/driver said he had several Hudsons, like in the movie "Cars". Got home and parked around 11PM.
Times off the slip:
R/T......099
60'.......1.951
330......5.526
1/8.......8.547
MPH......80.48
1000.....11.175
1/4.......13.411
MPH.....101.20
Interesting to me - I hadn't launched in 8 weeks (!) and the old reflexes are still there. The plan was to make one baseline run with the standard automatic (see above) then test the toggle-switch version of the Shift_Fast tranny controller, then try my MSD-controlled version to see if I can raise the shift RPMS and get better ETs. Things didn't work out, though... Next time.

My ETs and such have been pretty good, but the top end just isn't there..

If I ever tuned the car, the top end might get better....
Any suggestions? I haven't explored much for the top end, really.

Judging from the slips this year (and comments from the losers) the plan must be working. Short slicks, wide rims, DR-mod, VLSD, Jbars, 2-stage NX, a real cold-air INGEN, it all adds up, I guess. And good R/T helps, too.

I know about the R/T things - and that a good R/T will still win races.....

sure in bracket racing it will, but when we are just talking about your slip it has no affect

Funny. If I had believed that, I would have done it last year....... Now show me a real 1/10 second advantage over the MEVI, and maybe it's worth the hassle..

Installing hotshot headers with a cutout instead of the stock manifolds, that could be a serious improvement.

Your hp comes on differently than mine - spray is either ON or OFF, so I needed traction to use it. I've never run a FI Maxima, or against any other Maxima - this is Ford/Chevy/Mopar country, with a sprinkling of turboed Hondas.

Now if you have big sticky short slicks on wide alloy wheels and spray a 50-shot or 75-shot until your blower pressure reaches a preset number and turns off the N2O, then you could launch as hard or harder than me and pull that stronger top end. Whew.
Darn, would that really work ? Hummm

The MEVI does pull hard at the top, which is why I built the MSD-controlled Shift_Fast module for my automatic. I need to extend the 1-2 and 2-3 shift points somewhat. I was testing it last nite, but lost the fuel pump after the first pass.

Nope - all that happened was a surge of fuel pressure when the key was turned - the prime pulse - which dropped back quickly. It dawned on me later that that shouldn't happen - the fuel pressure will stay up for a long time after running, so something is wrong with that.
I really wanted some Shift_Fast times - the night was cool, the car felt strong, and I was ready to kick Mustang tail - I got one yellow GT on the first run, then died.
The weather's turning cool up here now also so I'm itching to get back to the track too. Supposed to rain this weekend though and I'm having fuel issues and need to tune again so it won't happen till next weekend at least.
I don't know what the conditions were like at KCIR last night, but around here it was a GREAT night to get to the track. DA was the lowest I've seen on a race night since I went to the track back in march. It was like 64 degrees at 7pm and baro or 30.20... makes for an 1100 foot DA at my 800 ft elevation track. Lowest I've been to the track to this summer is 1800 feet. But alas I was working on my car instead of racing it.

I'd imagine in the near sea level DA of Fall, he could be running in the 13.1@103mph range.

Your Alty looks pretty impressive. Do you track it a lot? Good times.

Yeah, I have been a member on .net for a couple years, and want to get know you max peeps over here.
13.31 is impressive man! I don't hit the track as much as I used to. I am hoping to get my times down. My PB is the 13.7, and that was w/ my stock tires and no tune. As soon as I get my hs headers put on, I am going to hit the track again. We'll see what happens......

You are going to put on DRs or slicks for the track, right? Otherwise the EPA will ban you because of all the smoke you will be spreading around !!
Do a video if possible - you 3.5L guys are fun to watch....

I've had 225/50/15 and 255/50/16 BFG DRs, and these M&Hs have much better traction on the launch. I've scored several 1.9 sec. 60' on the M&Hs - see the slip below ..
1.9 60' is awesome. I want to achieve that badly!
I am pretty sure that the 15's would not be an issue on the Alty. I need to check to see what I can get for this thing. I will check out jegs. These will have to come next after getting my headers put on!
