Got an early prototype built and we got to test it tonight at the track. This first prototype is nowhere near a beefy as I want it but this was principle testing (of something I've long wanted to test to increase FWD traction).

We first did some testing on the street and the main thing I noticed is that although it did reduce wheelspin somewhat, both tires really seemed to want to act together. When they break loose, it's an even, controlled, united wheelspin.

The car was acting wierd just like it was last year when my trap speed went back and forth between 98-99 mph to 103-105 mph. Something about the timing. The top end just wasn't there.

Anywho, this car's previous best 60 foot on stock tires with the 3.0L was 2.26.

Tonight I pulled a 2.070 60 foot (on a 14.92 run, go figure) with a 4000 rpm quick slip on stock 215/60/15 tires. The car hooked and went. I'm pretty sure a 2.07 is unheard of for a Y/E 5-speed. Everything except the exhaust system is stock. Suspension (original 130k miles), bushings (same here), funny alignement, etc. I wanted slicks badly tonight but the stock clutch would've said no thanks.

This "solid axle" is a solid link between both control arms and prevents control arm deflection, wheelhop and weight transfer all at the same time.

So far its street driven matters are suprisingly good and predictable. But that is because it's nowhere near as stiff as I want it yet. Basically acts as a stiff as hell swaybar. I'm gonna replace the 1-inch square with a beefy 2" tube and make this mod a 'track only' (hence the "quick release" part). Stay tuned.

 

Wow, very interesting. I'd be interested in this if you'd be willing to make some and they weren't overly expensive. Not at the moment, since I have no cash and am currently dead in the middle of my 00VI swap, but soon enough.

Well if my 240 ever gets started we plan on spending the next 3 weeks or so intensely on drag racing before the season ends.

 

Good stuff. Perfect opportunity to test it out and perfect it.

 

I want to know what my 240 traps and at which RPM it ends the 1/4 mile in 5th gear before the winter so I can re-gear it accordingly. I missed this season but I want to be ready early next spring not to miss anything like this year or '05.

I also want to do all the testing on the maxima before the tracks close early November.

 

wow 2.07 60ft on stock street tires is crazy. are you going to be selling the verison that you currently have on the car, the 1" square version?

Nope. Too wimpy. I'm out to prove that it's possible to pull a 1.9xx on average street tires in a maxima.

I will once I get the second version (beefy tubular one) done and tested. Give me some time to come up with something hardcore enough - it might put you in the 11's.
