went to the 1/8 mile today
Came back disappointed.
It was a about 90º today so that doesn't help one bit. And it takes about 30-45 minutes to get to the track.
96 SE 5spd, w/K&N Panel, Budget Y, SP2, TS ECU, 17s, BBK, JICs, 235/45/17 Falken Azenis ST115.
Very first run as soon as I got there was my best until about an hour later.
First run:
9.688 time
73.89 speed
0.704 reaction
2.224 60ft
Best run:
9.672
73.73
0.413
2.264
My 60ft suck. 1st time to the track in over a year and half. May go next Thursday to a different track and try to improve on my time. I was really hoping for more of a 9.3 at the most with the setup. Still impressed people, considering they thought I would only a run a 10.5
Let the car cool for about 15 minutes twice, but other than that I just continued to run back to back. Consistently ran 9.7-9.8 range all day. Was hoping to crack a 9.5 since I did hit a 9.6, but I can't drive.

ha people thought you would run 10.5 ahhaha i ran 10.2 auto and didnt know how to drive. after i got greddy catback, ypipe and cai i ran 9.8. best run i had was 9.7. you should be running 9.4 atleast
ya I figure a 9.4 is where i should be at least.
Anybody have suggestions on tire pressure, launch technique? When I grab 2nd I lose traction a little which doesn't help I'm guessing.

You might be making my mistake. When going into 2nd, dont just let off the clutch if you're loosing traction into 2nd, slip the clutch, make it a more gradual engagement than a sudden one. Its the suddeness thats casuing it to break loose. Its harder on the clutch tho! so "use it wisely"
are you airing down your tires at all? I find that helps alot around 25-22 PSI and a quick burnout before staging.
Also are you dropping the clutch at launch or slipping it? and at what RPM'S?

I didn't air down my tires at all. This was just a go out and have fun see what I can pull off in this heat.
Now this Thursday if the weather is nice I'm going to a different track and am I going to fiddle with air pressure.
I think I was mostly dumping the clutch around 1500-2K. I'm afraid to slip the clutch out because I'm not sure how much more life this clutch has. But I think a few runs Thursday I'll try and slip it.

Pretty good numbers. i went to the 1/8 track in march of this year and i got my best time was 9.7. All i have is intake and exhaust.
It's really funny when people think these cars are slow. The last time I went to the 1/8th mile track, I pulled in and parked next to a guy in an older Turbo Coupe. He looked over my motor, looked at my tires, and said, "If you're good, you should be able to run about a 10.5." I laughed and said "if I run a 10.5, I'm going staight home." He was pretty surprised when I was running 9.6 consistently all night with a worn out clutch and all-season tires.
I agree Todd, that is one of the reasons I enjoy this car so much. These "car nut" type guys think this boat of a car has no potential and that's what makes it so fun surprising the hell out of people.
My buddy brought his TA M6 up there he stopped running because he was on street tires and couldn't hook up worth a damn. I continued to run and people were asking my friend what I had. He told them just the standard VQ motor in it. Everybody said "oh so he has a swap?" He said no the STANDARD motor.
After I stopped running nobody came up to ask me (the owner) of the damn thing what it all had. I guess they were speechless.
While everybody was impressed I was dissappointed. But I think a lot of it had to do with the heat. Track was closed on Thursday due to rain so I couldn't make it out there to try and improve
.
Everytime I think about selling this car I just surprise more people and I then end up wanting to keep it
. Even my buddy who has the TA is impressed with the car. I let him drive it one time and he loved how smooth it was. I raced him one time for ****s and giggles. Took him from the light and then he hit 2nd and just before hitting 3rd he rolled out. But he was impressed with how crazy my 1st gear pull is. Coming from a Fbody owner thats saying a lot IMO cause those cars are ridiculous. I'm still drooling over a LS1 Camaro SS in red

I fell in love with these cars in 1994 when the 4th gen was released and told myself I would own one. It was 2002 when I got mine, and have never considered owning anything else because they are such good cars. I have a VQ35 sitting on a stand right now getting ready for the swap sometime mid-summer. Once I do the swap, I'm sure I will want to keep the car even more. It will be quite satisfying to run bumper to bumper with some fast street cars at the track.
