I ran my car at the strip check the 1/4 forum. But I ran 17.3-17.4s stock, 17.2 @ 78 with K&N panel, 17.0 @ 79 with cone filter. Then ran a 16.7 @ 81mph with CAI, 16.3 @ 82mph with CAI, exhaust, UDP, 60mm TB.

Yea there was a guy on the altima.net than run a 15.2 in a auto 87max with intake, exhaust and 80 shot. Personally I think a 2nd gen could run 14s with just a 50shot but that is just me .

Don't forget about the easy way to go fast. Weight.
Remove everything from the car that you don't need to get your weight down and keep the gas tank as low as possible.

You can put on the 1990+ 300ZX heads onto the VG30, right? That will give you DOHC. I think someone did that on a 1985 300ZX. Or is the Maxima engine a lot different?

I don't think that you can put the VG30DE heads onto the VG30E. Even if you could, it really wouldn't be worth all of that work, time, and money to do it. You'd only get 30-50 hp from it at best. If you want serious speed, go turbo.

With more air and fuel mixture in your engine from a turbo, you would really bennefit from 2 exhaust valves instead of just one.

Yeah, a twin cam engine with a turbo would definitely run faster than a single cam engine with a turbo. But I'm pretty sure that it's impossible to do it anyway.

I did some more research, and I can't find anyone that can say for sure they did the swap on their 300ZX, so you're probably right. I heard that idea from a Canadaian anyway...

hmm, swap?
So if you can't change the heads, can you just swap the whole engine?

i'm thinking of swapping my VG30E for a VG30DE or mabee even a 2002 maxima engine, thats 3.5L!!

can you swap SOHC for DOHC & it'll still work?

but my big question... will it pass CA smog?

thanks

You definitely would not be able to fit a 3.5L engine in there. The VE30DE and VQ30DE engines won't fit either. I'm not sure about the VG30DE, but I'm willing to be that it doesn't fit either.

The only thing you can do is put a turbo on your existing engine or swap it for the VG30ET.

Twin cam heads
Is the problem hood clearance, or no room at the firewall?

There's not enough room from the firewall to the radiator. I'm not sure about the hood clearance though.

Get a 1st gen Maxima and swap out headlights and tailights to make it look like a 2nd Gen. Then you can put in a Turbo V8 or 3.5L V6 or whatever you want!
