A few weeks ago I posted a thread about the clutch petal staying on the floor, and the clutch master cylinder being bone dry. From everyone's directions and the help of a Haynes manual, I was able to pump new fluid through the lines and burp the air out, and the clutch petal felt better than it ever did.

Except now there is major leakage somewhere. Every 2-3 days I will find the master cylinder near dry. I don't know too much about clutches or how the hydraulic system works, or where to check for leaks. During the day I will look a little closer to see if I can find brake fluid leaking, but in the meantime, does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Basically, you have a master cylinder, mounted on the firewall of the car. When you press the clutch pedal in, a small rod, or plunger, pressed into the master cylinder, forcing fluid into the high-pressure hydraulic line that delivers the fluid to slave cylinder, mounted on the transaxle. All of your hydraulics are contained in these three pieces. So, if you're leaking fluid for the clutch, you need to check the master cylinder, check the joint between the cylinder and the line, for leaks, also. Then, trace all the way down, to the slave cylinder, and look for evidence of leaks there.

For replacement or repair, these are rough averages I found from the internet:

Complete replacemant of all thre parts : approx. $73, + s&h and/or tax.

Rebuild or repair, with new hose : approx. $28, + s&h and/or tax.

I had a problem like that before, remember? Funny thing is, the problem just went "away". I know things just don't go "away", so I checked it out.....

It just went "away". I couldn't find squat!

I can't be precise, but I think it's leaking from the release cylinder. what now?

Yeah, I've notice on these cars, the slave cylinder tends to develop leaks a lot. You should probably take the car in and have your mechanic look at it.

Double check, and see if the leak is around the where the line goes in, or around the seals...if it's the line, you may be able to just tighten the line, or remove it from the cylinder, apply some sealant, and reinstall the line to the cylinder.

If it's from the seals, you'll want to either rebuild or replace the cylinder. If you have ever rebuilt a drom brake cylinder, this is very similar.

The rebuild option is tons cheaper, but not for everyone.
