heater fan

heater fan

my 88 maxima has climate controll and when the fan is set to run on low it does not work and when the fan comes on when its on high it makes a loud vibrating sound and vary little air comes from the vents!
i'm open to any advice thanks!

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say the fan motor is toast.

The blower is probably gone. It it doesn't work on low, and it not moving much air at high and making noises, it has to be that.

hey thanks for all your help i just opened up the fan and found out it is a turbine type and dried leaves and grass it up. i cleaned it out and it works great! now the only thing left is to charge the airconditioner and its ready (i dont even want to know how much its going to cost)

If you have to charge up your system, chances are you have a leak somewhere. You can save yourself some money by trying to find the leak yourself. it does no good to charge the A/C if you havent found where the leak is. If you can get yourself some nitrogen and a nitrogen regulator you can shoot some in and use some soap bubbles to find the leak. If you have a book for our cars, you should be able to trace the refrigeration circuit. Nitrogen will allow you to get the pressure up high enough to find or actually hear the leak. Around 150 to 200 PSI should work. Charging a car up takes no time at all. yes R-12 is expensive but if you can find the leak, that will be less time the technician has to spend finding it which will save you money. Also once you find it, if you know someone who does A/C work. try to get a vaccum pump and micron gauge. If there was a leak then that means the system was open and you need to get rid of any moisture and non condensibles that happened to get in the system. A vaccum pump will lower the pressure in the lines, flashing off any moisture at a lower pressure. The micron gauge will tell you how deep of a vaccum you have. It should be around 400 microns. If the system is alreay in a vaccum and all you need to do is charge it you should be able to cut costs in half. if you can get your hands on the equipment let me know and I can give you a more thourgh walk through. I do heating and air conditioning for a living so I know what I'm talking about by the way. Let me know how it goes.
