2nd gen Maxima was the best generation ever?

Thats what I think. The quality, technology and price at that time was amazing for it's day. The interior especially is way better than later generations and even some luxury cars today. Four wheel disc breaks, a talking display and every where in the interior was soft to the touch even under the steering wheel! Now all cars today have hard plastic throughout. We even had an equalizer. Plus it was built in Japan with long lasting parts in mind! I went to check out the 2004 Maxima and it just was a let down. The interior build quality did not meet my expectations! It did not compare to the Murano (wasn't that good but significantly lower) most importantly the car felt empty and cold with no feeling. Nissan has got to treat it's flagship better! If Altima gets an upgraded interior to one level higher it will be the same as the Max! So then who wants a Maxima? I just wish cars today were built like the second gen. It's my belief that Japanese cars today are not built as reliable as cars in the 80's.

I love the 2nd gens, but I also like the 97-98 4th gen, 5th and 6th gens myself. Especially because they have the VQ motor, which is one of the best motors around.

Both the Maxima and Camry were great cars compared to the rest of the industry at that time.
As for being the best gen.. I take my 3-gen, VE30DE 190hp,lsd,irs,no tick vtcs anytime

The wagon version is very cool and was one of the best looking wagons still

Yeah, the 3rd gen is no doubt the best styled one. A 92 or newer SE 5-speed and I'd be happy!

Readily agreed in regards to the wagon, which is one of the reasons i was able to seel my wife on mine when it was purchased. It was our only car at the time, and she hated wagons...she still does - any wagon that's not a max...

I dont think the Camry was the Maxima and the Cressida in 85 offered more luxury than any other Japenese car at that time(86 the Legend competed with them stillmot offering alot of features the 86 Max and cressida offered). The Max and Cressida offered much more than the Camry/Accord could offer at that time, I rememeber the last Battle of the Cressida and Max in 1989 by Motor Trend, they said if this is what we have to look forward to in the LS400 and Q45 + more they will be hits.

I agree that the 3rd had the best styling. I, of course, think the 1st is the best. But really it is just a dressed up 810. The 2nd is the first real Maxima. Both 1st and 2nd I appreciate for being something that the US auto industry either couldn't build at the time or didn't have the will.

yup, it still hangs with some of the new "fast" sedans, and the styling still looks great!

I like the third gen too but the 2nd gen to me was the most technically advanced for it's time and the interior came in all sorts of colors (mine blue) plus the interior material quality has not been matched to this day.
