Ideas?

I was wondering if this would be possible, as it could be a cheap as a good used tranny, and solve a lot of the issues the 2nd gen 5-speeds have.

Came to me as I was thinking about it, and figuring if I bought a used 2nd gen 5-speed, i'd wanna rebuild it anyway, to eliminate pulling it again soon for a rebuild...

get a shelled 2nd gen trans as a core, and a good 3rd gen LSD or non-LSD, for that matter, trans with a busted case, and transplant allo the goodies from the 3rd gen, into the casing for our 2nd gen, along with new bearing, seals, boots, etc...essecially building a 2nd gen 5-speed with all of the 3rd gen upgrades, without all the hassels of the thrid mount, etc...?

I'm also still wanting to find someone who would be willing to assist with a test fitting of 3-rd gen struts, springs, and if needed, spindles, into our cars, and the control arms, and ball joints are identicle...and just use the strut mount from the 2nd gen on top, and see if that would be a viable option for getting tokikos or koni's and other springs, other than ST....

If any of you 3rd gen owers out there that browse our forum have an old set of front or rear struts and original springs they'd be willing to donate to this test, please let me know...

That should work, like I said before, other than small differences, you can just put the 3rd tranny in. The 2 main mounts will still line up and work, just be sure to get a hold some 2nd gen shift linkage, and be sure to swap the speedo gear (since the 3rd gen is digital). Either way you got a plan going there.

this plan would give a drop in hybrid 5-sp trans...drop in installation, with all the benefits of a 3-rd gen - the newer bearing designs, the gear ratios, etc...even LSD possibly, if it would fit in the case...if this turned into a valid mod, it could be something someone could make some good money producing for us...if they were so inclined...wish I had the money to try it out...

The LSD should fit, since the tranny housing is essentially the same with or without LSD.
