dieing at idle
dieing at idle
I went out to crank up my 87 SE for work...it started up fine so I went in to get a few more things...when I came back out the car was not running...so I cranked it up again, and it cranked right up, then started to idle really low and died again....so I cranked it up one more time and drove it to work...it ran fine on the way to work....I am wondering if anyone else has had any problems like this? It was about 45 degrees here this morning. Thanks.

If it's low (around 12V) then comes up, you might be right
that it's your alt, but if it's higher and stays higher, then it's
something else.
Maybe it's something as simple as changing the fuel filter?
My 86 wagon does this sometimes after I've been driving the
car for awhile then shut it off and go to start it again... it will
run rough for a couple of seconds then smooth out.
I already replaced the regulator and it helped some, but I'm
begining to think I have a leaky injector.

yeah I can try the fuel filter...I just went out and cranked the car again....and my idle will fluctuate from about 600(almost cutting off) to about 1000, and the idle is more rough when I first start it but it is still a little rough even after it is warm....and it is still making that farting noise out of the tail pipe...but its coming from in the engine bay becuase you feel the car kinda jump in the front when you here it from the tail pipe....any help...and how hard is it to do the air regulator fix that is in the sticky? And does it work?
Definately worth a try. Though the IAC is known as a FICD (fast idle control device) on this car. It's located on the back of the intake plenum on the passenger side of the motor when your looking from the front of the car back. I don't believe you will get a code for it since there isn't a sensor for it. As I was telling you last night, you may need to play around with it. Vacuum lines are definately worth checking out. Either way, keep us posted how it goes.
