Air Condition Problem

For some weird reason my air conditioner just stopped working. I checked all of the fuses and they are all okay. The only way I can get the A/C compressor to come on is to take a wire and jump it across the fuse relay. I checked the switch on the inside I didn't see anything that be causing a problem. I also attempted to recharge the A/C but that still didn't solve my problem. I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions to what the problem could be. Thanks.

Wait...you tried to recharge the system? With what? These systems run on R12...which isn't available to the normal consumer....unless you have a hookup with someone. I'd try replacing the relay...sounds like it's bad.

You do realize if you switch over to R134a, you're going to need to replace the dryer.

when you push the A/C button, does the compressor even cycle on? If not, it could be a problem with the clutch, or the same problem I have - the control unit is bad - i need to replace mine...

The control unit I'm referring to is the actual header, witht he fan speed control, the A/C button, etc...
