How to fix a leaking sunroof

My sunroof has been leaking, so I decided to fix it like the top-notch pro-mechanic that I am. Besides, how hard can it be? I mean c'mon, it's JUST weather stripping right??? I got some weather stripping that "looked about right." It was, however, a bit too big, and the sunroof didn't close all the way. Not a problem, I thought. I pulled out my handy-dandy pocket knife to cut some of it away, MacGyver style. Now, the sunroof would close all the way (Yay!), but there was a little gap between the window and roof (Boo!). It was also at about this time that I realized that my "about right" stripping that was also raised about .25" over the roof, was probably worse than no stripping. It looked like the new stripping would just cause a little puddle to form over the glass, inevitably to drain itself through the little gap. It was also about this time that both my "about right looking" stripping and my top-notch pro-mechanic skills came into question. Hmmmm. Now what? Well, after a long night of soul searching and playing Xbox, I decided to "uninstall" the new insulation. Unfortunately I have a little (alot) of cement still stuck on the car where the ill-fated stripping once was. I got some bug/tar remover that hopefully will help to complete the uninstall. The next step I guess will be to call the wise, all-knowing elders ( ) at the dealership, to see if I can get some high quality bona fide Nissan sunroof stripping.

If there are any other top-notch pro-mechanics out there who have a leaky sunroof as well, I will be sure to make a write-up including how exactly to choose stripping that is "about right," how to choose the most permanent cement you can find, how to remove said items, and how to call the dealership to order the real stuff.

Well, one thing to keep in mind is the sunroof has a weather strip...but it doesn't really keep a good seal like the doors do. Hence why there are drains on all 4 corners of the sunroof tray. What you might do is check to make sure none of the drains are plugged. A new strip will help from the dealer. I have the front piece, but I have had a chance to install it, let check to see if the dealer has the rear piece.

I need a rear piece myself. Ill definately have to check to see about the clogged holes in the tray area. I totally forgot about those. Mine doesnt leak its just the weather stripping in the rear of the sunroof ledge is coming out and off. I havent opened up my sunroof in 3 months.

Check the gutter that is under the back end of the glass panel. It is attached to the tracks and moves with the sunroof. Ours came loose on one side somehow (screw was missing - ??) and the gutter got lodged between the roof and headliner. The front and both sides of the opening have a "built in" gutter and drain lines like someone mentioned, but the back edge of the window has nothing under it except the moveable gutter, which directs any leakage to the sides.
