New Deck

Ok, So I have a 87 Nissan Maxima and I bought a new Deck. After I installed it I had no sound, I checked everything it was all connected grounded lights came on etc. so I took it to a shop and they told me I have to take out the Equalizer and rewire everything directly to the speakers. You guys seem to know more so I thought id get a second opinion. Any advice as to why I have no sound and how to fix it.

yes, its very simple, there is a plug in the back of the eq, unplug it, this is your speakers, you will have to cut the plug off and find out which wire is what spkr. its not to hard to do.

I need to do that. I just got my headunit back. The ribbon cable between the control face and unit went bad. I threw together a quick amp wall. I'll post pics in a seperate thread.

do like i did and take a doubble a battery to the wires connect one black and one black/white to the batt and tap it to the top of the batt the black white is the pos and the black in the neg then youll be able to locate the speakers by where you hear the static from thats how i did it. then for the wires the schematic for the colors should be on the top or bottom side of the radio. if you go to the electronics store ask the sales associate for a early model nissan car radio wire harness he should be able to tell you where they are because all early models are the same . years 1984-1994 i think.

Use a 9v battery to test speaker wires....a little safer than a 12v one.

its not that i dont like em its just that theyre too expensive for a hunk of a magnet that can shake the ground, and ti takes up all of the trunk space. its like paying for someone to fill up your trunk....awwh hell, nevermind

Ok Question, not sure where else to ask this. I bought a 900watt 12" Visonic Subwoofer and I need to know what kind of amp im gonna need. Will any amp work? Do I need an amp with a 900 watt output?(never seen a 900) Or will 250 work just fine? And will I only need 2 channels for 1 sub? and will 2 channels work with 2 subs?

1. Try to match the power rating of the sub to that of the amp for best sound.

2. You can use a 2 channel amp on one sub. If it's a single voice coil sub, just the bridge the channels together. If it's a dual voice coil, you'll have to work out the impedence so you don't blow your equipment.

Lemme guess, you got the sub from XS Cargo, right? But anyways, even if you use an amp rated for less power than what the sub can take it will still work fine. You just won't be realizing the full potential of the sub. Bear in mind too that there's a good chance that the sub can't really take 900 watts anyway. What amps have you been looking at getting?

I have a sub that can take 900W and I got an amp that can put out 800W I figured that this way I can't overpower the sub and it still gets pleanty loud. Oh and I also have a 4 cubic foot box and pleanty of trunk room.
