a clicking in hard turns even after the axles have been replaced (why would you need to replace axles these are freakin tough as hell) suggest to me they werent packed with grease enough.
as for the ticking engine wise....exhaust leak?

E: Can you pinpoint the ticking? I suggest some vacuum hose to use as a stephoscope (or however it's spelt). Just move it around the engine bay until you pinpoint it. How loud is this ticking? Also note you will notice ticking from the injectors....but they shouldn't be that loud.

My bad, I meant joint. Boots aren't too bad...but I'd usually buy a new halfshaft anyway since you can find half-shafts for cheap. By the time you have the boot off, you'd already have a new halfshaft installed.

Has the car been sitting? When I was working on my transmission I drained the oil out of my car because i was also working on my oil pan. When I finally got it back toghther I heard a clicking noise. It was the Valves clicking because it wasnt properly lubed yet. I put more oil in and it eventually got lubed up enough were it you couldnt hear the valves going up again. Just a suggestion.

Plug wires maybe ????....they do down hill quickly after 2 years in dry climate.... I had the same problem on another car and yes ....it was the a wire shorting out on the engine...it ran bad also......
Easy way to check it pop the hood in a dark area....raise the rpm and if you have a short ....you should be able to see it!!!!!
Use process of elimination....until you can narrow down the area...then do a deep dive!!!
