bent valve??

well eversence i done my timmbing belt ihe had a ticking from the rear head, right above the broke exhaust stud leak, but it wasent to bad

untill the other day i put in about a whole can of seafoam, then now in the morning and when its coold off any, i get this bad ticking from the same spot it def goes with rpm and sound like a valve hitting something. but within a min or 2 its gone

i just changed the oil hoping it would fix it but no good

i think its the valve is best a lil and when its cold the head is closer to the piston and it barley hits, but when its hot it expands up and has more distsnce

or the seafoam ruined something on my valve

whats yall think????????

If it goes away when it warms up, it's almost definately lifter tick. Not a big deal it can just be annoying. The only way to completely fix it is to replace the lifters, but I find that a a slightly thicker oil helps some. My Z has had the same problem for two years now, and it hasn't had a negative affect yet.

Tick Tick Tick

You said that you have a broken exhaust stud right where the ticking is coming from. Then you say in a couple of minutes it goes away. I have had this happen to me before. The tick would go away when the manifold gets hot because the heat makes the manifold and head expand. I fixed the the stud and the sound whent away.

yeah, it's most likely just an exhaust leak where that stud is broken. if the valve was hitting the piston you'd have some serious problems!

trust me, it's impossible for any valves to be hitting the pistons unless the timing belt has skipped a tooth or something. if it had done that though, you'd definitely know. it'd either be running like crap or not at all.

It's lifter tick. Trust me. If your timing was off one notch you'd notice a loss in performance. More specifically, the car would be lugging around. The exhaust note would also sound a lot different.

Seafoam can knock a lot of crud loose, and in a motor as old as yours, that isn't always a good idea as that crud can hold a lot of things together, ie gaskets.

Lifter tick after a seafoam treatment is not uncommon. But lifter tick isn't necessarily a bad thing. It will come and go based on the temp of the motor and whether or not air is caught in the lifter, which happens often. Don't worry about it.

It is also a good idea to inspect your plugs following a seafoam treatment.
