87 Maxima Window Problem

Ok I have changed the driver side controls on my 87. Mine was bad, or at least I thought because the driver window would not go down.
Change to one from the wrecking yard, it work but the window would close up on its own when it felt like it. Changed that one, put another one in, worked while it was being installed and a few hours later.
Next day, would not roll down. Would go up with not problem, but not down, if I constantly push the button down and up, sometimes it works.
Do I need a new window motor, or go to the electrical shop?
PS I need to change my picture, I have an 87 now, that one is gone.
Forgot how nice it was.

check the wiring and connectors from the switch to the motor. you could have a broken wire causing an intermittent open circuit.

I have a two-tone also, what is our interior color? Mine seems to be brown dash and grey and brown door panels and brown/grey seats.
The plug from the switch to the motor has a lot of wires, what am I looking for?

sounds like you got a bad switch from the junk yard. This must be a problem in these cars because the same thing happend on my 87. The thing is with mine it would roll down with out hitting the button. It decided to do this the first time we had a really bad rain storm. What I started doing until I got another one was just unpluging the switch after I rolled down the window so it could not come back up...this worked fine, it looked a little ghetto having a hole when the switch was unplugged, but whatever. I would see if you can borrow someone eleses in the area to try one that you know works before you go spending more money on switches. Or else see if the junkyard will let you test it before you buy it.

I went back to the junkyard today, I narrowed the problem down to the little yellow box under the arm rest when you pull the door panel off.
When I push the button I can hear it for the up side of the switch, but not going down. Change that piece now it works great.
While at the junkyard, I only found one those boxes, all the other Maximas had that same box removed already.
Going back tomorrow to get the nice leather front seats.

If you have any switch problems, you can take the switch apart and clean it with rubbing alcohol, or electrical connection cleaner(carb cleaner works too).

The problem you explained could be a problem with the window relays. When a relay coil goes bad, it could possibily open and close on it's own. I think that yellow box is the control unit for the windows, which is dependent on the switches too, if your missing one switch, that window wont open on any of the switches.
