2nd gen front door speakers

Mine need replaced. I DON"T need the newest, just what sounds good and actually fits properly. I figure I'll get them off of eBay.

Tell me what you have, and if you actually like the way they sound.

I had Sony Xplod 6 1/2" in there. They were 3 way so they had decend highs without component tweeters. the mid was loud enough, but the bass suffered at loud volumes. They were $50 a pair. Not the most expensive, nor the cheapest. They lasted about 5 years til they blew.

Thanks. That's what I wanted to hear. I don't want to drop a lot of money.

Yep, I had 3 way Pioneers 6 1/2's in front and 2 way 6 1/2 Pioneers in the back of my 88 when I had it. If you havent done the back yet just remove the speakers and remove that bracket that they sit on and youll be able to fit 6 1/2's in the back as well. In the front I had to make alittle room with my 3 way pioneers because of the tweeter setup so my speaker grill popped out alittle. Make sure the tweeters are set in there pretty good on the speaker you buy. Mine played lovely though.

I think I'll try that, cause the 51/4 ones back there dont fit too well either. but in his case, I don't think it will matter cause it's a wagon

I did Kenwood Excelon 6.5" Xr61p components in the front, and 5.25" Xr51p components in the back. I had really good highs, and mids, and decent lows (subs took care of the rest). The ye olde max of yore sounded awesome back in the day.

How much room is there clearance wise? I wonder because I was looking at some speakers last night, and on some units the tweeters or whatever stick up from the rest of the speaker.. I'd rather not be cutting the door panels at all.
