5 spd wiring questions

ok so the speed swap is done now i have some questions for anyone that has some info lemme kno.

ok i got the car to start using part of the tranny position sensor harness and the clutch interlock switch. depress to start.

got a fsm and it says that the position sensor on the 5spd has a pin out for the reverse lights. my questions are....

1. would something bad happen as me using the clutch interlock switch to start. but when driving will it have an effecto n the motor by putting it into neutral before shifting?

2. what does the tranny position sensor do outside of the 2 pinouts for reverse?

now for the pics..

I could be wrong but the tranny position sensor is just for the lights, in my FSM circuit diagram it only has "back-up lamp switch (m/t)" and the clutch interlock switch will need to be wired to the inhibitor relay for starting and a.s.c.d control unit (if you still have cruise).

now on a side not you might be able to just skip the clutch switch if your not running cruise and just make jumpers for the inhibitor relays for starting (just remember not to try and start in gear with the clutch out) other then that you could check with Capedcavers I know he just did a 5sp swap and is still running on a A/T ECU

well see our trannys have an extra ecu that controols the tranny all by its self, i ditched the cruise completelt not a mention of it except for the cruise light on the dash, even changed out my indicator stalks. i got the tranny to start and stuff just wondering what the position switch on the m/t is for, 2 is for the reverse lights dont know what the other 2 is for.

any ideals?

You only need 2 wires for reverse light. There shouldn't be anything additional...if there is, it could be for a speed sensor...but it's mechanical for this gen maxima.

ok then cuse i know what lights are for reverse. ive never driven a 5 spd v6 before and man the torque in 2nd gear is unbelieveable. havent went into 3rd yed by the time its time to change its time to pull in the driveway. wait till i slap the turbo on this byiotch (had to unmod it for smog) ooooh man the anticipation is unbelieveable.

when you had the tranny apart did you notice if there was something the fork would push on the switch or if it's like a magnetic switch, if its a magnetic it might need power in.

Nope, there is no such thing. I've had a few of these apart.

The only thing you need to worry about is your reverse lights.

the black and blue-white wire does nothing

and the 2 red wires go to the other 2 blue wires (blue green and blue red) then ya got reverse lights.

damn, I have been away from the 2nd gen forum for too long aparently. I did not know sarin got a maxima again. And Big_E congrats on getting the conversion done on your maxima. I am still having trouble with mine(2nd gen) stuttering all of the time when cold, and having slow acceleration.

I'm trying to figure out how to defeat the neutral position switch on my 3rd gen w/o losing cruise control or reverse lights. Anyone know how to do this?

if its the one on the clutch cut the wires and connect them together. your car will thnik its in park or neutral all the time tho. dont really kno what to tell ya but someone would.

hey maxima86se if ya are reading this how hard was it to do the 3rd gen suspension?? found a good set at the yard when i go back and theyre still there ima get em.

I never wired the clutch pedal into the tranny when I did my swap.

woah i geuss that this is outta my hands and beyond my knowledge.

but ill still stab and slap at it.

you say that you have to move the shifter to the 1-2 neutral postiion to start then i would dhink that there is a switch around there somewhere possiply the position switch is the problem. there is a pic of where mune is should be in the same place as yours your prolly gonna have to jump it by wiring 2 wires together.

the 5 lug conversion is definitely time consuming. Make sure you get the suspension from a 3rd gen with 4 wheel disk brakes. I think there should be a write up sticky in the main 2nd gen forum.

Oh, and I was able to find the OEM body kit(made of same material as the front spoiler) in the junkyard a while back, and it will hopefully go in soon. I may still need the sideskirts, I will let you know.
