Sounds like a typical retarded cop that doesn't have sht else to do lol.
They just bust you and when they explain why they give a shtty reason. Don't get me wrong tho they're good and all but when it's stuff like this it's more like why...?
So.. what now?

well technacli i think you could of still had it tt'ed but aslong as it pased smog and it still had all the smog crap on it... and if it is all good they will even give you a sticker making it leagel...like this guy he got a state(tx) aproved tt-350z

http://espanol.video.yahoo.com/watch/106832/582907

but my guess it for smog... (did your tt even pass smog)

If it makes you feel any better, you and JoeBoost are the 2 Maxima owners that i have the highest respect for. Everyone always says the VG30E isnt worth doing anything to etc. etc. and you Twin Turbo'd yours and made it look absolutely sick. JoeBoost engine swapped his 3rd gen and Turbo'd it though but you stuck with the VG30E which gains my respect

anyhow, props to you

thanks yall

as for engine swaps cali is a ***** to do stuff to your car. i did it and see how long it took me to get caught like 1.5 years 3 sets of tires and countless tanks of gasoline LOL!

it wouldnt pass smog due to the visual

in california for a car to pass smog it has to have 3 things..

the donor car motor has to be registered in california

the swap has to be from car to cat and truck to truck

and all smog equip must be intact

i had no egr, cat and all types of **** was modded. was fun while it lasted i measured both the engine and engine bay and turning the engine sideways is possible. just gotta gigure out the steering and front crossmember. ill start purchasing parts next paycheck on the 50% off sales (once a month) and see where it takes me

thinking about using a z31 tranny with a infiniti j30 diff with the lsd gonna have to make a custom driveshaft which is no problem i gots access to metal and i have a welder.

gonna be interesting and still practical for it to work for me all 4 seats have to be able to be sat in. all the **** should work on it as well. im excited to get started. just nought a z31 turbo to keep me entertained until the swap is done.

Time to get a 5.5g 6-speed.

To be honest, even though you've done all this custom work...I think doing a RWD conversion might be biting off a little too much. Plus it really doesn't solve the getting the car legal problems. Besides, if you want a RWD...you can probably find a Infiniti M30 and work off that. RWD, very similar to the 2nd gen maxima. Just a thought.

what do you need to all do for a RWD conversion? someone told me a long time ago and all i remember is new tranny (DUH) and i think move the gas tank?

stupid question, but was your hood custom made or did you buy it? i love the Z31 style hoodscoop (and a functional one im guessing, right? not one of those $30 stick on ones )

yea, but you might want to foam your frame for such things and go with some higher gearing in the rearend to maintain some MPGs but skip the V8tt sticker to maintain some what of a sleeper look

the ecu(300zx) swap will make a diff in performance. (as for the maf i see not much use for upgrade if turbo aint being installed.. that's my opinion)

i just found a clean 1988 2nd gen here, white, lady driven, no rust or body damage, immaculate dash, would pass inspection without a single issue, automatic with 150,000km (about 73,000 miles) so this things barely seen life. $1500. I have to keep my current money for my 3rd gen but im considering taking a loan from the bank just to build some credit and taking a couple hundred bucks off each paycheck for 4 months

have you checkedthe coil. i had the sam issue with my max it woud die out of no wear and when it coold down it will start right back up. just check to see if you get spark when the car dies if u get no spark when you try to turn it back on it would be the coil.. the maf should be the second thing to check... hope it helps

Congratulation on a great wagon. Where are you located at? I'm in Ohio and there's a member here from Colorado with an 84 wagon.

One thing that doesn't cost a lot is to check your battery cables and starter connections for built up corrosion. If there is any, a little baking soda and water mixture will clear it up and help your connections. Too much corrosion
can short out your electrical flow.

Had the car been sitting for long before you got it? If you don't have one, check Ebay for a factory service manual, they come in handy.

Kinda depressing but 3rd, 2nd, and 1st gens are a dying race i go to pick-n-pull 3-4 times a week and since August there have been literally 25-30 3rd gens and 15-20 2nd gens there, they dont get really stripped either. people rip 2000 Integras and 92 Civics to the shell but 3rd gens and 2nd gens usually just get the interior stripped and the engine/tranny wasted and almost all are low mileage cars They used to get 1 3rd gen a month but today alone 5 went in

ive seen 1 1st gen here and it was dirty as he11 and driven by a fat guy that looked like he lives in his moms basement, i jizzed when i saw the car though. Otherwise i see 1-2 2nd gens a month and maybe 5 3rd gens a month, most which look like beaters that will be crushed soon or probably have been. a few lurk on online ads but thats about it. Its one of the reasons i wont part with my 3rd gen, they will be rare here one day

i want to buy a 1st gen though, RWD Maxima= awesome teh sidewayz

Hey chrome91,

Check out the photo gallery for an 82 1st gen in Illinois.

that things gorgeous, i see its for sale too. I would be able to fix all the body work and and i would paint it a pearl white. I had to do triple the body work on my 3rd gen this summer (rust on all wheel wells with one being eaten through, dents, scratches, all from the previous owner) and now that i got it done i can get some interior work done and mechanical stuff done

your 1st gen has it all, stick, RWD, and a inline 6. if i had that thing it would be a drifting machine. just out of curiosity how much are you asking?

is the rust eaten through or surface?

i repaired both on my 3rd gen. quick run through is if its surface, use a mouse sander to sand off all the rust, bondo over the clean metal, sand with the mouse sander again to get the bondo flat and smooth, use a block sander to feather the bondo, use filler to fill in any craters, block sand the filler, spray a few coats of primer, same for paint, then clearcoat

eaten through rust, knock out all of the rust first. you can make up some metal to fill in the eaten through part, hold it in with rivets and again bondo, filler, etc. etc.

shops charge alot to fix rust (mine was quoted at $2000+ total), if youve got a few days to do it yourself major rust will cost around $1000 and minor spots only a couple hundred, too bad youre not closer to me else i would help

if its just on your bumper and you dont want to deal with fixing rust just get a new bumper from the junkyard if it matches your car color

lol thats alright. Same thing though, if you dont want to deal with the rust just get a new trunk from the junkyard (though half of the time theyre scratched up or rusty).

If its in a corner/nook, you wont be able to use a mouse sander to get off the rust. you would need a angle grinder, and to get the small pieces a grinding stone tip thingy that you stick on the end of a drill. if its really mild rust though i think you would be alright with just getting a block sander, and taping on some coarse sandpaper around it or just using the grinding stone tip

but yeah, pic would be best
