'88 Maxima SE- At very low speeds, say, less than 20 mph, I hear a clicking sound from the right rear tire area. Any ideas what this might be?

 

The clicking is "soft" and not loud. But if to try thoroughly I can hear the sound, say up to 30 mph (less loud, higher tone). At speeds less than 5 mph the clicking is synchronous with the wheel(s) revolutions. Also it doesn't matter if I'm cornering or drive straight. On the short humps and holes (and 5 to 10 seconds after) the sound is more noticeable.
Ideas - ball bearings or the "internal" CVJ, but I'm not sure.
Pls drop some lines on the Forum upon fixing.

a bolt was off of my wheel and rolling around in my wheel cap. aND it only happened at low speeds so check that .

It might be something more serious.
By the way, sometimes the clicking happens just after shifting to neutral. Also, I remember that once I found a loose bar (something around 1.5 to 2 ft long) running from the gear box to somewhere on the bottom of the body.
Maybe it's a culprit.

P.S. I've noticed there only few of 1\2 Gen owners on the Forum. Do you visit 3 Gen. forum? Your car is very similar to the 3Gens, so you'll find a lot of useful info there.

Good call on that one. One of my lug nuts was off and rolling around. Tightened her up and no clicking sound. Thanks, I never would have thought of that. Later

 

had the same problem...turned out to be rear brake pad shims were not replaced with the new pads...these are antirattle shims...if they are cracked of missing, the brake pads wil 'drag' on the rotor and move back and forth in the caliper, causing the 'clicking' noise (it sounds like a bad bearing, very frustrating)

 

Hey dooods....do any of yall know if they make any strut bars for the 87' model....and another thing.....i hear a clickin sound in my car...everytime i turn the steering wheel....so what up wit taht.....could it be the cv boot?? Well let me know what up...laters

 

Sorry to let you know my friend but its the cv joints. Your boot is cracked and dirt particles have gotten in side and its grinding the joints. Need to get that replaced pronto. Sorry they dont make tower strut bars for our cars. there isnt enough demand for them. The only way is to custom make one or custom fit on from another car on to ours and make custom ends .
