Trying to see if anyone has done this at home. Our rear main seal leaks very bad to were every morning there is a 4" spot, but the oil is never low? lol..
the car is an 88 with 150k miles. Dont want to pay someone $500 to do it.. so any info would be cool.

Re: Rear main seal leak. Fix at home?

My 86SE had a leaking rear main seal before 75,000 miles. After shutting off the engine, look under the car and you could see it dripping oil. You can do it at home but it's a lot of work to replace since you have to remove the transmission and all.

I tried a can of {engine oil stop leak} and to my surprise the leak stopped, it took several days to work. Can said 2-7 days, forgot what brand but they all work the same way, make the rubber seal swell up. Give it a try, less then $5.00 .

I did replace the seal when I did a clutch job on the car around 100K. I could have just left the old one since it looked like it wasn't leaking.
