replacement of clarion stereo and now no sound

ive replaced the factory stereo in my nissan maxima 1998 with a sony. bought the harnesses needed swapped over but got no sound. im a little confused cause i cant much on this solving this. everything i have found is to do with the bose system and amps on each speaker. ive checked the back speakers and there is no amps on the speakers.
im wondering cause it had the separate cd unit do i need to connect the wiring into the harness? but i take it the plug for the cd unit was just to power it.
any help would be grateful. thankyou in advance.

kevin

You have this posted in the wrong forum. You should have posted this in the 4th generation forum.

If you had the Bose radio, it would say BOSE on the front of the radio, the tape cassette slot. The old CD player does not have to be plugged in anywhere, it is not needed by the sony.

Sometimes there is a ground problem. Get a wire and run it from the metal case of the radio to a known good chassis ground and see if this helps. Otherwise double check the connection for the Sony harness to the (Metra?) adaptor harness. Maybe you have a bad connection, maybe you have something incorrect.

here is how I wired my Sony in my 97 Max.

just wanted to update for anyone else searching for answers to the new radio but no sound problem.
i finally got the time to sort this problem out.
all i did was cut the l.blue/red cable from the nissan plug and connected it to the yellow cable on the sony harness that i bought.
its only taken me half a year to sort and to finally have music in my car.
so i take it the cable i cut and connected is from an amp somewhere in the car.
cause im getting no sound out of the rear right speaker. but thats a problem for another day.
thanks dennismik your diagram helped me resolve this problem.

I've recently replaced the dual single DIN (tape deck at the top and cd player below and both are interconnected) Clarion stereo in a 1998 Nissan Maxima. (Australia if that makes a difference)

I installed a single DIN stereo using the wiring harnesses. It powered up but no sound. After a bit of hunting about I found 2 clarion amplifiers mounted to the left hand side on the back of the rear seat in the boot (trunk).
The 2 amplifiers look like a single unit due to how close they are mounted to each other but they are separate units, one feeds the front speakers and the other rear speakers. I removed the amps, and simply joined the input/output speaker wires together for sound to work and left the amplifier power in the plugs. (I may have complicated things a little due to the new wiring harnesses sending front right speaker to left rear speaker and so on, whilst its not really that important I did straighten them while I had the soldering iron out).

The speaker wire colour code/speakers lined up with this link, I've no idea if anything else corresponds as the wiring harnesses took care of the rest.
