Advanced Timing

After reading the 1/4 thread it looks like advanced timing increases performance everytime. I searched but could only find information on newer model maximas. What do you need in order to advance the timing and is it safe for the car.

Also, try searching about this topic. You will find a lot of good stuff about this. And it is safe if you use 93 octane and don't advance it too far.

thanks for that link it was really helpful. To everyone that has advanced their timing have you actually used a timing gun or have you gotten a mechanic to help you with that part of the procedure?

Don't go and do it my stupid way, but I marked the timing in stock position on the dist. (was set when I got it tuned), then I advanced it ever so slightly, drove it. I did this until I felt an improvement and didn't knock under any circumstances..like bogging from a start up a hill. Get atiming like to do it by the book, but I have had no problem, and always have stock setting marked as a reference point.
