has anyone mounted a speaker here......

cardboard panel
I wouldn't as is. The panel is weak and not well attached. Between the speaker vibration and the motions of the car, I think the speakers will tear loose.
However, if you really want to use the location, use the cardboard as a template, and make a new one out of 3/4 inch plywood or MDF. You will have the "meat" to mount the speakers, the meat to mount the panel properly, and it won't vibrate to pieces.
If it does not work out to your liking you can replace the original panel intact, and write the whole experiment off to experience.
Good luck,
John

I was thinking about mounting a pair of 6.5 in the rear door panels. You could easily customoze it to look like the ones in the front. A lot of new cars use a 6 speaker system and I think that it would look and sound good. Just an idea.

I've had the back door panels off and you're right, the window does only go down half way. I think you can do it. I thought about it myself but never did cause my stereo is loud enough even with the subs off! But, to be safe, take the door panel off, the windor will have to be down to get it off easier anyway. Then, just look to see, measure the speaker your using and use your best judgement. I think you'll have to buy one of those foam speaker backings though. You know what I'm talking about? It's like an enclosure for the back of the speaker to protect it from the wheather.
