I need help fast!

guys I really need help fast. I hope I'm not annoy you guys with questions, but I have a serious problem. I was driving home tonight and my clutch pedal went to the floor. Driving home without using a clutch was terrible. I had to shift without a clutch at high rpm's and then when I got off the interstate I had to drive home in 1st gear. What is happening?

I have no doubt that you are correct. I just want to know if there is anything I can do to get it moving again. I kind of wish I had the money back from doing my brakes now so I could afford a clutch.

Did it just go to the floor and not do anything? Remember we have hydrolic clutches on our max's. It sounds like you have a leak in the line or a bad master or slave clutch cylinder. Look kinda below and to the left of the master cylinder. There should be a smaller looking "master" cylinder there. That is the clutch master cylinder. My guess would be that there is no fluid in there or it is low. Trace the lines and determine if one is bad. Also check by on the bell housing for signs of fluid. There is a clutch slave cylinder there that activates the pivot arm which engages and releases the clutch. From my experiences, usually the clutch is ok but there is a fluid problem unless you are unlucky like me and have the pivot arm break like it did on my old turbocharged colt.

yeah, I called a tranny shop and they said its probably one of the clyinder and they replace both at the same time. So now I might try shopping for the parts and working on it this weekend with some help.

Just to let you know......Usually it's the seal on the slave cylinder that goes out in this kind of a situation. The clutch master cylinder rarely goes bad since there is no exposure where it is located. Make sure you bleed the clutch just like you would with the brakes if you do remove either of them.

Not that hard to diagnosis. Do you have fluid in the clutch master cylinder? Is there leaking anywhere along the lines?(solid and rubber). Is the slave cylinder leaking?? Is it wet around the slave cylinder? The clutch hydraulic system on a maxima is very simple. Also pull back the carpet/pad right under your clutch pedal and check if the master cylinder is leaking where the rod pokes through the firewall.

This problem doesn't really WARRANT POSTING IN TWO FORUMS.

So check these things then post HERE again.

sorry Jeff. The reason I posted in the general forum was because I didn't get a response here fast, and I was kind of in need of an answer quickly since it was the middle of the night and I had to get back to town to take an exam at 9 am. My car is gone right now getting checked at the place I purchased it.

word of advice..shouldnt rely on this forum for emergency situations (like the one you had) or even at all...

if you can wake up 9 in the morning to take a exam.. then you can open up a chiltons or a haynes and diagnose the problem your self with more reliable solutions to your problem. instead of listening to people's dumb answers on here ie "your clutch is F***ed" which really doesnt help you at all.

if you don't have a chilton's or hayne's then it doesn't help much. And I find a lot of people on the org to be very resourceful and helpful. I'm amazed at all the info I have learned in the past few months from reading the posts on here. What's so wrong about asking about a problem I am having with my car? Isn't that what the org is for? If its something simple I search, but if its hard to search specially then I ask.

If anyone would like to know, I'm about to go try out my car this afternoon. I got it fixed for around $100.
