y pipe problem

I just got a wsp y pipe and hi flow cat installed, and when i leave the car running but not accelerating the car starts to vibrate a little and it makes a loose clamp noise, but the mechanic said all the clamps are secure. I know other ppl with y pipes had this problem so any1 tell me how they fixed it?

tnx

A loose clamp noise?

What clamps are there? It's jut pretty much a straight bolt on...there shouldnt be any 'clamps'.

A better description would do wonders.

You might call the cat to y-pipe flange a "clamp"..at least if you have a wsp pipe.. Nomenclature that's all. You can still use your imagination to figure out what he means. Check your y-pipe to front sway bar clearance..sometimes they hit. Honestly, the best way to finc out what it is is to get your car to the nearest pepe boys, throw the tech some cash to look it over and get under there with him. Poke around and see what you can find..might be a heat shield or something like that. I yanked all my shields..nothing but problems once you modify a system.

I have a similiar problem and I suspect that it's the muffler (i have a 2k muffler) hitting the heat sheld. Did the mechanic try to shake the pipes to see if any kind of rattling occured? I had another incident before this with metal hitting metal. It wind up coming from the B pipe section. It had nothing to do with my wsp y or anything. A piece of metal came off the welds that's suppose to hang the pipe onto a rubber piece. It's 6am in the morning so my brain isn't working that well. I hope what I said makes sense.

I'm not saying to have them do anything, I'm saying it is worth a few bucks to have them put it on a lift so you yourself can get a good look. Unless you have a lift in your backyard, it is worth ten bucks to me to have it up on a lift..they may be useless as far as repairs go, but they do have lifts! I bet he has a loose heatshield.

Re: y pipe problem

had the smae problem...the y-pipe is hitting your front sway bar!! simple solution...go back to the shop and have the guy heat up the section of the y-pipe right over the say bar until its not touching anymore, then its shouldn't make anymore noise!

He has a lift. It's made of plywood, and it used masonry blocks and jackstands...works pretty good too!

I am going to say it is a heatshield or like DA Max said the sway bar.

I will have a lift one day. When I went and got my parts car in FL the guy I got it from had his own lift in his shop beside his house...I want one so bad.

I used to have the ypipe hittign my sway bar, then I tightened the clamp that holds the pipe up which commonly gets loose and that helped, but i also had to heat the pipe and make a bend a little so it was raised off the sway when it was installed originally with my greddy sp, and random Tech cat back in early 2001. BTW I will never own anything Greddy every again especially Exhaust, it is so Scheity made. Already rusting and pealing!
