I been thinkin of something to do with that coin tray next to the Power / Comfort switch for a while now.. I never use it since I don't smoke and use the ash tray for coins.. well here are my ideas so far.

small tweater mounted behind some grille
neon lights
voltage monitor display

I like the voltage monitor display idea.. Any of you have any cool ideas I could consider

Haha if you got a box and amp in your trunk why not wire some controls to that where your coin tray is. NOS!

I think you're all missing a fairly obvious use for the coin tray. Take a Dremel grinder and grind out those tabs that separate the coins. How many times have you been driving down the road, enjoying a happy meal and wishing you could dip your french fry in some ketchup. You can't use those paper cups that you pump the ketchup into - they just fall on the carpet at the first turn. The former coin tray will easily hold a standard foil ketchup packet. Enjoy.

i used mine to make my switches look clean. I just drilled a hole and put switches in 3 of the spots. One was for my indiglo pedals, one was for my amp so that i don't have to bump when i don't feel like it, and on is just there waiting for something to hook up to it. All the swiches light up and are diff. colors. When anyone asks me what the red one is for, I just tell them to meat me on a straight away and find out......

CLEAN

To keep everything looking clean, you could build a plate that fits inside the tray, then drill holes for switches, so when you dont need the switches you can just push the tray in, and it will look stock. When you need the switches, simply pull the tray out, flip the switch(s) and push it back in...

If you really got alot of money to work with, put some switches in there for all the stuff we have said, but don't make it a flip face, put a switch on your dash or somewhere so it can be an automatic flip face. Replace it and wire it so it opens on its own, that would be awsome.

I removed my coin tray to put switches and a button in.

Blue lighted switch for amp power.
Green lighted switch for car computer power.
Red push-button for early shutdown of the car computer. Normally when I turn off the car, the computer will stay on for 12 minutes (in case I'm just getting case or picking up a friend or running into the store), but if I push the button it'll shutdown right away. In either case, when it shuts down, it tells the OS to turn itself off, then two minutes later it cuts power to the computer.

I never liked the coin tray anyway. The coins always rattled like hell. I keep the coins in the basin under the parking brake. A small cloth over it keeps it hidden, lets me put other stuff on top, and keeps it from rattling.

You pay enough, you can get someone to do anything for you, even wipe your a$$..

I did my switches myself though, pretty easy.

I imagine an audio shop which is used to doing custom construction where aesthetics is important, would do it, though. Probably not worth the cost, though. Unless it's something you're just tacking on to a larger job.

further suggestion: to anyone who has a 5 spd 3rd gen, you can put a single din deck/EQ in there just cut out the coin piece and the blank square to the right of it

Turbo timer or boost controller. I think its a 1/4 DIN slot so anything like that'll fit..
