Fixed (installed) my A/T bushing
Fixed (installed) my A/T bushing
Ok...My 92SE had the typical problem that shift into D and took 3 seconds to engage into Drive. So I ordered the bushings from CN and got a chance to work on it this past sunday. I took just two screws off from the Cat heat shield, I was able to get access to that area. So I took the pin off, the washer off and then the spring washer off. And I was expecting to see a worned bushing. When I poped the linkage out, I DID NOT see any bushings there! I thought it might have pop and dropped on the ground but I couldn't find it. I was just wondering why there was no bushings. Anyway, I installed the new bushing. The shifting is now normal and the shift lever feels more solid and more like a new car. (I still haven't changed the one on the tranny side)

I too have had this problem where the car would not fall into drive correctly, also when placing it into park it would'nt lock in. And if it was not locked into park the car could not be restarted, until I put a little pressure on the shift lever.
So I gotta find this other bushing that you replaced?? Where is it again? I've made adjustments to the cable length many times in the past to try and solve my problem, but it sounds like the bushing that you have replaced.
YOu didnt find a bushing there b/c it simply broke and fell off while you were driving, leading to the problem you just solved.

My bushing was gone also. It just dry rots over a period of 10 years and falls off. Here is the write up on a very easy repair:
