it's the amp. Capacitors basically dry up over time and need to be replaced.

Look in the General Maintenance Thread for more info.

I've reworked 2 amps out of my 90. If you can solder, you can do this for about $2 worth of caps per amp.

Hey Blue, why dont you go aftermarket speakers, head unit and amps? I have found out in all my cars that the factory equipment sounds suck!!! I'm not putting these guys down, but aftermarket is sooo much better.

Where can you find replacement Bose amps for $20? Because I'd like to buy some too!

I disagree with the comment that says "an aftermarket is soo much better" than the Bose. Aftermarket can be much better than Bose, or it can be much worse. Depends on what you put in and how much you spend. I doubt that a $150 or $200 system (both head unit and speakers) from Walmart or something is going to be better than Bose. But spend enough money and buy top brand equipments, and yes, it can be much better! Not all of us can (or want to) spend that much, though. The stock Bose (in perfect working order, of course!) isn't bad at all, especially for OEM stereo. It's better than most cars in its day, and is good enough for most people that's not an audiophile. To many, fixing the Bose is still the best option.

Yes, I agree with your comment, but I live in New Zealand where aftermarket systems are VERY expensive. I took out my factory radio and put in a Sony head unit and Pioneer speakers with only cost me about $250 US. Thats really cheap for where I live and they sound damn good!! So, all I was saying was shop around, look for deals and go for it
